Post Thank You Hack 1.10

About this hack:
One of the biggest problems on forums as you may know is 'posts boosting'. There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose.

There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting.

Then comes the moderators who have to delete people?s thanks yous so a thread can look readable with out the thanks yous thrown around.

Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'.

What this hack does is fix ALL these problems - except those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'thanks.' When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box.

By giving your users the extra feature, you forum will look allot nice and organized. It is a granted liking by ALL the members of your forum.

The hack has been tested VERY well, including 5 weeks of beta testing, but I'm only human I can't guaranty there are no problems.

There is a similar hack called 'Automatic Thank You Hack'. That hack only lets you thank the first post of a thread and not just any post. The options in this hack doesn't compare to my hack. It's also unsupportive and was release for an older version of vBulletin.

Nice hack - I have the 0.6 Beta installed. What do we need to do to upgrade from it?

Download this and there is an updater from 0.6 to 1.0.

There is also only one file edit you have to do. And no template edits.

One more thing, don't forget to click 'install'.

oh man. I must have messed un something with the phrases. Let me look.

yes.. i do update from 0.5 to 0.6 and now i do 0.6 to 1.0.. but the phrase on admincp especially on Import do was lost the phrase..

Ok. So far i know it's a problem with the update. I need to find out if the fresh install also doesn't so the phrases. I'll check it out now.

and also.. check http://www.gembels.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=8 it was doesn't look every posting have thanks icon.. u really write like that this is the bugs or what.. thanks for the advanced

and after i update the the cyle database all phrase come lost .. sorry my english not well.. that will display like Posts/: 12/0 the phrase gone.. maybe that the problem exactly.. first i upgrade they have the phrase

There is no bug. The only problem is the updater putting in the phrases that were changed. I will try to fix that asap. There is no problem with free installs.

I don't know what you mean by button not always showing. It wont show if it's your post.

OK Guys. The updater has been fixed. Anyone who used the updater download the file again and upload the installer file. Run it and click 'update from 0.6 to 1.0. Don't do the file edit.

I'm not getting the thanks button next to the edit button to show up, everything else is ok. I put the Button Image in my images/buttons folder.
I dont know what went wrong.

As far as I know there should be no problem. I didn't test it on it but the features are basic and should work on any 3.x.

Cool hack, though on my new upcoming forums it would have the opposite effect, it's a forum for a mmorpg game, with a hall of fame forum, so when someone ingame get's a good loot and make a thread about it, everyone go in and say "Gratz" to him, then he would click "Thanks" on all the "Gratz" replies, meaning all who said "Gratz" to him would get alot of "Thanks" :rolleyes: ending up with alot of "Gratz" instead of "Thanks".

But, very usefull anyway, i can just make it as a "Gratz Hack" instead, and only have it in that one hall of fame forum, then the guy getting a good loot ingame would get alot of "Gratz" counts, standing out as a heavy looter, this would encourage ppl to post their loots in the hall of fame. :smoke:

Yes. It was in the installer. When you go step by step, there is one page that tells you the file edits and another that tells you the template edits.

If you ran the installer already and didn't do the edits, there is option in the installer to jump to the file edits.

Nice hack. I've installed it but have one small issue. As the style on my website is very different, the postbit_legacy template is very different. I've got my own image in place, so all I need is the actual link which allows the user to create the thanks post.

In your instructions it's this:

$post_thanks

Which creates the main button and link and as I can't use that, I just need the link itself :).

For anyone that has a problem after upgrading to vbulletin 3.0.5. Simply run the installer again and all will then work as intended :)

Everytime a new person hits the tnaks button, do this make a new post or does it edit the same thankyou post everytime

OK, I've got everything work now except the admincp settings don't appear. I can see the Post Thanks options in the main vbulletin options, but when I select it, there's no options below.

I can see the option info in the phrases. Any ideas?

No clue. Try running the installer again.
