Height of piracy!

Dont think height is the right word, anyway. We all know about the piracy issues etc but i never seen a site like the one i just found.

It allows you to choose from one of the three vbulletin sites, and then type in the attachment ID, and it downloads it for you. How messed up is that?

Johnny 12-13-2004 10:53 PM

You do realize that's the same way as signing a confession to a crime?

I figure if vb gets them for piracy to begin with then tht solves our problem.

Exuse me, i have reported on such site in past too.
FYI - They were located on a different domain, but all the pages styles were looking similar to vb.org
Morever i tested loggin in using 1 of my 3 accounts for vb (i deleted that account from members are on vb.com later) and also tried registering a new account. (this account was not registered on vb.com or any official sites)

And to my wonder both these accounts were able to download files...............

Note - I only created 1 account and not 2..
How did this work ??

Edit - Subscribed with daily email notification to this thread, coz i was always wondering how that site actually worked :ermm:

The sites store in a database the attachmentid here, and then a file reference. Then you just enter the attachmentid on those sites, it looks up the reference to the file on their servce and downloads it.

As stated the system does not rely or get anything directly from this site.

their are thousands of sites almost like that and really no way of vb getting them since every country is different on laws of piracy.
