Could the vb3 mod requests form have more moderation?

It's sad to say that so very few requests in the modification requests forum that ever get made, but there are some ways things could be improved.

FAR too often people just post there and say:

"How can you do X?"

And someone responds

"Use hack Y"

or even

"Just edit Z on the admin CP"

Could posts like that get either closed or moved to an archive subforum?

That could account for about 50% of the threads there -> then what's left should be decent origonal ideas that people can help develop.

Thoughts?

And if someone else want the same requests, he can't see the answer !

I think it could be a nice job to edit title and add [resolved]

Borgs8472 11-07-2004 09:45 PM

^ ^
True, but so many newbies jump right in with requests to do that, they wouldn't...

So a nice 'resolved' marker would be nice, but additional moderation would be required still.

HiDeo 11-07-2004 09:50 PM

Maybe but they have find new good moderators ;)

Borgs8472 11-09-2004 08:50 PM

*hint* :D

twoseven 11-09-2004 10:54 PM

also if someone undertakes the project is there a place to have all the ones in process?

Logikos 11-10-2004 04:06 AM

you might be correct ^^

Borgs8472 11-12-2004 10:22 PM

Nah, I don't mind if you're not eager to dish out board power like that, but what do you think of the idea?

Is it something existing moderators could have time for?

Xenon 11-14-2004 03:59 PM

Ah, sorry i thought i already said something about that ^^

we're currently discussing something in the back.

Borgs8472 11-14-2004 10:23 PM

Thanks! Keep me/us posted please :D

Borgs8472 11-21-2004 10:06 PM

Xenon 09-08-2005 11:13 AM

Hmm, we have assigened another moderator to that forum ;)

Lol who is the poor sucker? :D :D

Hmm maybe a complete different idea: Create a new forum for Hack Proposals, where only fully documented requests can be made. But i doubt that it would work, people would still be posting questions there.

Offer is now closed.

I'd be interested, but I'd made subfora for 'resolved -> hack already exists', minor modifications, major modifications or generally sorted by how creative or difficult the hack would be implement.

Also duplicate threads be redirected and moved/closed ASAP.

Would any of those ideas be used? I'd volunteer then :)

To come back to this topic, it's obviously better for people who ask to have another mod to officially answer stuff, but this wasn't what I had in mind.

I'd like the forum to do something like that do at experts-exchange which is to mark ALL threads in catergories of e.g. in development, made, duplicate question, poster abandoned question and so on.

As far as I'm concerned, any thread that has been answered or solved should no longer be in that forum. Often people ask 'how to I do so and so'?

This should go in the Modification Questions or General questions fora or get moved there. Any hack request that is fulfilled should have a release, even if it's only a minimod.

All that should be in that forum are questions newer than a couple of weeks that havn't been moderator reviewed. After which they get marked by moving to a sub forum or abandoned, major work needed, minor work needed, service requests, template or hack releases or others if needed.

I want to use the forum to see what mods people are keen on and I could contribute to, not answer how-to questions.

Still would like a better clean up rate in that forum.

Borgs8472 11-27-2005 08:44 PM

If the answer's 'no', I'd like to hear it.

Borgs8472 12-05-2005 10:18 AM

Everyone has to have a hobby, like bumping this thread.

nexialys 12-05-2005 12:27 PM

your suggestions involved that you'd be volunteer for them... this is like asking to become a moderator, and i don't think any guy here had this opportunity simply by requesting some changes to be done on the forum...

Borgs8472 12-05-2005 05:53 PM

^ ^
Yeah, I know...

But what's the biggest reason that this won't happen? Because it will be seen as too much work for the mods to organise this.

'To much work' would be the reason why this won't be done. Something like this would require the staff to micro-manage this forum daily and is just going to confuse the end users more. It's up to the people involved with the request thread to organize development and ensure a release (if the request is fulfilled).

The request forums are not for 'how do i?' questions, if you see any threads like that report them and they will be delt with.

Borgs8472 12-12-2005 10:40 AM

Mostly requests get answered or ignored if they turn up in the wrong forum, not moved.

Why not get more people to sort through all these requests aye?

Chris M 12-12-2005 02:39 PM

I believe Brad answered this question already...

Chris

peterska2 12-12-2005 08:10 PM

But when in the average week I can be reporting anything from 10 to 50 posts for being in the wrong forums alone, then it does get a bit silly. I'm starting to worry about wearing out the report posts button!!!

soniceffect 12-12-2005 09:25 PM

Lmao ....

Yes you do, to better manage the requests forum.

You don't want to manage it any more because you don't have enough staff, so get some more...

Borgs8472 12-14-2005 10:15 PM

My thread is over a year old now!

Minimod for the requests form, a coding job without any more staff required.

On creating a thread, tick a box with 'willing to pay'.

If the thread has no replies within two weeks, the thread auto bumps and moves to service requests :)
