Can anyone recommend a decent/free Flash chat client?
I'm looking for a flash chat client for our users who keep having problems with the java IRC applet we run.
I'm heard of 123 flash chat, and Pipey's Flash Chat, but I have no idea what would be most appropriate really. Any ideas/suggestions? |
<a href="http://www.tufat.com/script.php?id_num=2" target="_blank">Darrens $5 script</a> is one of the best I've used .. ok .. it's not free, but certainly worth the $5

Thanks a lot for that link! I like it a lot! Kinda pissed that my getright keeps trying to download it's .mp3s it plays however. :( Had to close it to use it properly... I might go for that if no one suggests any better. :) (and yes, $5 is within my budget, I may even go as high as $20 *gasp* ) |
i've been looking for one as well, but with no luck... that darrens script is the best one i've come across thus far, too bad it costs. but it's easy to integrate into vbulletin.

Works great and what a steal :)

Anyone who has it, could you briefly summerise how easy it was for you to install?
Sorry to be a bother, since there's $ involved, I want to make sure I wouldn't be overeaching my (limited) technical expertise... :) |

Took about 2 mins if that, to intergrate into vB3 :) It comes with the install instructions. |
Grrr...
So I installed the bugger, but got stuck on the install.php where various database access passwords were asked for. I'm only co-admin of the board, and don't have absolutely all information ever avalible to me. I can't find a support thread like one might with a hack posted here, and now I've spent $5 for nothing! Possibly... Any sources of help anyone? |
Can you intergrate this with vbulletin?
|
yes its very easy to install if you want to see a working version of it stop by and register at my forums. www.nextelelite.com

You need the database name, user and password for the database. Since that is "private" information, you need to get in touch with whoever set up your database(s) on the server. There is a forum link at http://www.tufat.com if you have other problems, but no one else can really help you with that.
Good luck, Matt Quote:

OK I have this installed and my users like it but wish it didn't open another window and could see who is in Chat....anyone want to take this on for better integration?

There is a module info.php for chat status that you can add to your forum index, or wherever. http://tufat.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1653 Regards, Matt |

however, the best thing is to put the info.php into a module thus showing who's in the chat room at any time. then put a link in that info module that produces a pop-up of the flashchat room. well, that's my two cents. hope it helps. again the support forums at darren's site has all this info, the vbadvanced site has it and i'm pretty sure i think i saw a thread here on how to integrate it into a module... not sure though. |
I know the thread is dormant but I just paid the $5, the install instructions are straighforward but a tiny bit misleading, but it's bloody good value, a superb tool, go try the demo, integrates NO SWEAT...
|
is there a way to see the install instructions before purchasing?
Also, once integrated, does it still require users who are logged in, to login again? |

I haven't seen any installation instructions online. Regards, Matt |

Um, how do users get into the chat? Mine says "user and pass", and if you don't have one, you have to enter as guest. How do they register, or do I register them?

The readme says to go to the /integrations folder and select the appropriate integration (vbulletin.html - Integrating FlashChat with vBulletin v. 3.03) to get instructions for installing and integrating FlashChat with your BBS. When users follow the FlashChat link, they will be authorized and logged into Flashchat automatically, under their usernames. Regards, Matt |
I also bought FlashChat and installed it on my forums site, in my effort to locate a decent chat for my users. The installation instructions are misleading, you may just want to skip the standard install and go directly to the integration instructions, which if followed will produce an integrated FlashChat sustem.
However, I find the way messages are shown, quite cumbersome, as the username/time and message are mixed up in the messages window. I would like them to be in a tabylar format, where time and user name are shown in the left column and the message on the right column, that would make reading the messages much more convenient. Per se, the program has received the attention of several coders here, mainly Paul M, and there are some additional integration options, like who is in the chat (viewable from ForumHome) etc., but until the columns issue is solved, I would stick with ZT's hack, which is entirely php/MySQL and allows me better integration with vB. I have installed flashchat, didn't take any time and for a room that isn't really busy it does just fine.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ You will notice that messages which are longer than one line, the text wraps underneath the name/time area. This makes distinguishing who posts what, very difficult. What I was hoping to do, is something like this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2005/03/1.jpg Rgds |
