TOS violations.....

what the hell are they? my account has been suspended and i took me over 10 hours to find out why, and now i cant find out what it means... TOS violations?? i didnt even this existed or anything, nevermind what on earth they are *shrugs*

Dean C 10-02-2004 12:48 PM

Terms of Service Violations. When you signed up for your hosting you agreed to a terms and conditions. Should it be found you are hosting some kind of illegal material for example, then that'd be against their TOS and your account would be suspended :)

wreck 10-02-2004 12:53 PM

what will be classed as illegal material though????

because we dont host anything illegal, no downloads or nothing like that. this is making no sense to me and now i cant get a reply from the host *shrugs*

poolking 10-02-2004 01:01 PM

It would help if you told us what material you were hosting.

Unless you have explictic written consent to stream the music files to people that juke box could be considered illegal.s

well they never asked for anything last time, thats where the problem was when this happened last time, so why would they do it again when the matter was cleared up???? but i cant even get a reply from them anymore

hostdime in 3 weeks has caused me more problems than my previous host did in 7 month

Dean C 10-02-2004 01:25 PM

Well there's nothing more we can help you with. This is between you and your host :)

nexialys 10-02-2004 01:27 PM

btw... a webhost never have the right to close an account regarding website content if that webhost never receive complaints, because the host is not the judge of content, but is responsible of illegal uses...

@wreck... if your host/service retreived your right to use their service is because someone made a complaint, and even if the host have no real proof of illegal acts, you have to display your personal rights to use that content...

wreck 10-02-2004 01:33 PM

but i cant do that when they havent told me what it is thats illegal on the site. its now been 12 hours i have been trying to handle this and its really p***ing me off

nexialys 10-02-2004 02:14 PM

i would suggest you to change your host and state this at first, so you have no more problems with that kind of situation.. (pm me if needed)

AN-net 10-02-2004 05:29 PM

when ever hosting anything to do with music first in a preliminary email before signing up ask the sales/customer service people if you were hosting music and had permission to host it would it be ok and would they suspend your account without any questions if someone was to file a complaint. always ask questions first not later:)

I don't know about where you live but in the United States, where the majority of hosting companies are, the host has a right to review and reject any content on their servers at any time whether someone complains or not.

There is a principle in business that they can refuse to provide service for any reason. So if a host doesn't like black backgrounds, swearing or anything else, they can suspend your account and refuse to do service with you in the future. Most probably won't but that doesn't mean they can't.
