Convert .php into .html For All Forums

A Perfect Example: http://forums.techguy.org

All the forums ends in .html rather than .php.
How would you achieve this and does this hack exist in vbulletin.org/com?

Check out ht elink in my sig to Dani's post on mod_rewrite ... long process, but well worth it.

IT really doesnt improve your spiderablity that much, not to mention it breaks half of the way vB' works.

Natch 10-01-2004 06:14 PM

Which half does it break Zachery?

Having page names that match forum titles and thread titles should help a LOT I reckon...

showthread.php?t=34567 opposed to t34567-hardware-discussion-specifically-servers.html

The second option seems to compare much more favourably...

WOL and it can confuse some moderators (trust me on this one).

:)

Natch 10-02-2004 11:52 AM

Heh - my moderators (barring one) know so little about vB that a change to make it clearer will also be helpful to them ;)

With regards WOL, there should be a fix to that ... PHP edits to the online.php testing for the preg_match similar to that in the .htaccess, then assigning scriptnames based on that should do it ;)

Seems like alot of work just to make the forums 5% more spiderable.(and yes i did pull that number out of nowhere)

Break what? I have had a mod-rewrite installed since Vb2 and a search for mysite/forums (without using www or .com) returns 18,000 results. A dynamically generated site map is linked on my home page and provides the search engines with an entire map of my boards using html extensions.

For the WOL, couldn't you just change from Unknown Location to Current Location, then use the trim function to trim down the acually location of the user? And 5%, is 5% more that you didn't have. ;)

Hi jons5150... I clicked the forum in your profile. It has the regular php links. Did you change the re-write, and if so, why?

Normal members don't see the unkown location text/link. Altho you could always hack online.php and change that to.

Hi Justice,

You must have clicked on the wrong link. Click on the logo on my front page...

By the way, anybody modify or hack their archives with G-o-o-g*e ads or other ads?

Results? Problems? Tips????
