For instance, can this server handle 200 co-current users at once? And that amount of bandwidth, is that a good amount for a huge board? |
Personaly i would not go with 1&1 they seem to have alot of negitive feedback.
If its a dedicated server why are they limiting any of your options on a DEDICATED (YOUR OWN) server? |
yeah if its dedicated you should have unlimited(aka unmetered) everything also you dont mention disk space.....

With all honesty guys. I'm looking for a great host, that can handle atleast 200-300 members online, and great bandwidth. Great everything, including price.
|
If you want a greaet host, you need to be willing to part with abit of cash.
I would suggest looking at theplanet.com or servermatrix.com. SM is cheeper but its not fully managed. SM's prices might be abit more money but i am almost positive that their servers are better. IIRC the 1&1 servers are all under 2ghz. |
Again, so I can get the best feedback. I'm planning to use this with 3 websites I am planning host off. They will be used for business purposes. Meaning, no down time and top notch speed. The fourth website will be my personal forums, and will take up 99% of everything on the server.
How much users can be on this server? : http://theplanet.com/control/pro/p2800sl_details.html Again, thank you for your feedback. |
1&1 are terrible hosts. I would not reccomend them to anyone :)

Anyone else?

I looked at 1&1....ended up going to servermatrix. The servers are not managed (fully) but thanks to a few guides I got it up and running (which actually took very little), checked over and have found the support to be not lacking at any level.
I can't imagine what benefit I'd get from fully managed over the speedy responses and alike I have had so far. Of course there are other hosts that have great reps. We are using the SS24 and it's hardly even noticing our site is there. Dns was the only major stumbling block, having only one machine...SM sorted on theres despite numerous alias and changes. |

That's crazy. I've seen sites with 1000 concurrent connections, how much do you think they pay for hosting a month?

Here are the server details I'm planning on going with.
Microprocessor Dual 2.8GHz Xeon Processors* RAM 1GB RAM*, upgradeable to 4GB Hard Drive 1 x 73GB SCSI HDD IP Addresses 11*, upgradeable to 59 OS Choice of Redhat Enterprise 3.0*, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Debian, or FreeBSD Bandwidth 2000GB*, upgradeable to 3000GB Control Panel Available cPanel, Helm or Plesk Web Analytics Available Urchin 5.0 Database Available MySQL, Shared or Dedicated Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Oracle 10G Standard Edition One Firewall Available Cisco Pix 506e or 515e Management Plan Gold*, Platinum or Titanium |
More than sufficient I'd say.
Take a peak at www.seatcupra.net I know they are also on a PIV 2.8 from SM, sorry we are on the 2.8 aswell, again it's not struggling with load...Ram being the key on vb3 over raw CPU. |
One thing: unless you have your own DNS server, don't go with theplanet as they are blacklisted for SPAM: their shared servers are not monitored well enough for spammers...

ok my input now, I have a hosting company, not owned by me, but a good friend of mine, I help sale his hosting, so here it is, you can get a dedicated server with 540 gigs and unmetered bandwidth for $80 a month and $250 setup fee or $90 a month and $150 setup fee or $100 a month and $50 setup fee.
Here are the detailed specs: Dell 400SC - 2.8GHz - 800MHz FSB HT 2x250 GB HDD 1x40 GB HDD 512 MB DDRam 15 IPs address Basic details and this is one heck of a deal. I have hosting with him myself and he has great customer support, great up time, 99.9% uptime, and much much more. If you wish to purchase this server, you can contact me: mythotical@malvaria.com Thanks Myth |
