Winamp Security Breach
 

If you have any Winamp version older than 5.05 installed, you have a major security gap in your computer (even if you don't run it!).

It is critical that you patch it either way:
a) Upgrade Winamp to 5.05
b) Double Click "My Computer"/Tools/Folder Options/File Types, find extension "WSZ", click advanced and mark "confirm open after download"
OR
delete WSZ extension altogether.

Winamp Classic != Winamp3 right?

No Winamp 5 is 2+3 thats where the 5 comes from, they just totally bypassed 4

nope, winamp 3 was there, but hardly anyone used it...
it was too resourceintense...

It was sorta like installing a small drain in your taskbar that all your memory ran out of.

3 sucked.

i used winamp 2 until 5 was released.

i just took a look at winamp 3 at a friends pc and then i knew i won't install it on mine ;)

I find 5 leaks as well - I'm sticking with 2.93 :D

One thing I liked about 3 that isnt in 5 (that I know of) is the multiple playlists.

Ah, but that was Winamp3 1.0 build #488d, not Winamp 3.0. Now called Wasabi.player and being rebuilt by the former employees of Nullsoft that had worked on it and more. ;)

And Natch: There is no 2.93 ;) The last public Winamp 2 version was 2.91, although 2.92 and 2.95 were leaked as well, followed by the Winamp 5.0 Alpha leak.

Personaly i really like winamp 5 in classic mode :)

Modern skins are nice for the eye candy, but my Winamp is in the taskbar for most of the time anyways. :)

Ditto, and the eyecandy can really drive processor usage on some older machines. and i have only found one or two WA3/5 skins i really like and its not worth it on my 1800+ :)

I also use winamp 5 with a classic skin.
a very plain and dark one ^^
