Mark thread as "solved"

Is there such a hack? I run a tech support forum and I think it would be helpful to have a hack users can mark as "solved".

Eagle Creek 01-03-2005 05:16 PM

I am looking for this for a loooooong time! I know a dutch forum which is using that but they don't know anymore where they had find the hack!

The Realist 01-05-2005 04:25 PM

Same here.

Eagle Creek 01-05-2005 04:57 PM

Here you can see an example:

In the forum display a column (http://www.helpmij.nl/forum/forumdis...?s=&forumid=69):
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

At the bottom of the thread ( http://www.helpmij.nl/forum/showthre...hreadid=195699 )

Status van de vraag : (state of the question)
Vraag is opgelost (question is solved)
Vraag is niet opgelost (question is unsolved)

The Realist 01-05-2005 05:17 PM

Yes something like that will do but I see your running a very old version of VB.

im certain this is already released under a differetn name but cant think of name.
When someone does a post only they or admin see the icon to say whereever the thread has been solved or something and then they click the button and it gets moved to a solved section or even closed.

someone will remember the name - its something like help thread or soemthing

Eagle Creek 02-28-2005 10:24 PM

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=618988 is nice indeed but not for 3.0.7 :(

The Realist 03-31-2005 12:45 PM

Still looking for this mark threads solved hack.

Anyone?

Jorim 09-12-2005 05:29 PM

There still isn't a hack that does this??

I'd really like to have a hack that does that! :)

Eagle Creek 09-12-2005 05:31 PM

:(:(

Quillz 09-12-2005 05:38 PM

Wouldn't something like this entail a thread multi-moderation modification? You know, something that allows you to close a thread and marked it [Resolved]?

Jorim 09-12-2005 05:41 PM

Almost, that is a function for only the moderators. It's better that the thread poster can click "resolved" himself! And closing it isn't good because there is a possibility that an other answer is better...

Only moderators and topicsstarters I guess..

A friend of mine said he would build exact the same thing I want but he is a very busy man .. so... :(

I know there has to be a hack like this because I know of vB forums that use it. Doesn't anybody know where we can find it? :ermm:

A friend of my made it.. I can ask if he wants to make it public.. (I can't guarantee anything)

Bubble #5 01-07-2006 07:49 PM

Wow that would be REALLY great if he would share that with us. Thank you for asking him :)

JohnBee 09-24-2006 12:56 AM

Please help us get it! - This was a great hack and I am very sorry to see that no one is even considering making one for 3.5.x.

Adrian Schneider 09-24-2006 01:02 AM

Here is what I did on my site.

Aside from the visual change, I changed the usergroup permissions for that forum to allow users to open/close their own threads.

I dislike the current thread prefixes hack, and any custom solutions take too much of my time right now, so I went for the best results with the least effort. So far I'm happy with it.

Let me know if you guys are interested.

Eagle Creek 09-24-2006 12:05 PM

I absolutely don't want to close threads when they are solved.

I agree, as closing a thread after it's been solved never made any sense to me. Closing threads should be reserved for when trouble makers are in a thread, not for when people are getting helped. Just because the original poster might have found their answer, doesn't mean that other people can't still learn from the thread.

We just want the option to mark the thread as 'solved' and hopefully, some kind sole with 3.6.x can help us with this issue...

Adrian Schneider 09-24-2006 06:30 PM

Unless you think of each thread as a support ticket, in which case it would be private anyway. If other people can still read it, then they can still learn from it. If they have their own problems, they should create their own thread.

Anyway, it's just one solution, I'm sure there are better ones.

ibuddy 10-09-2006 08:48 AM

where in the world is this hack/addon?

I like it! - Can you share the process you used to accomplish this?

Adrian Schneider 10-09-2006 11:07 PM

Sure. If I have some spare time tonight I'll try to get all the template edits/plugins together and share it here. If not, within a few days I guess...

JohnBee 10-09-2006 11:09 PM

Awesome thanks! - This is very exciting...
How do the open threads remain on top of the forum section?

Adrian Schneider 10-09-2006 11:11 PM

One of the plugins will alter it so when sorting by last post date (default), it will change the sort order from sticky, last post date; to sticky, open/closed, last post date.

JohnBee 10-09-2006 11:33 PM

Thats awesome!
This plugin actually looks better than the old [RESOLVED] hack! - Can't wait to install it. Our community has been asking for an upfront method of sorting resolved support issues for sometime now. This is great! thanks for sharing this... .thumbsup.

Adrian Schneider 10-11-2006 09:23 PM

Havn't forgotten... been real busy. :( I'll package it up tonight.

JohnBee 10-11-2006 09:40 PM

Great! .thumbsup.

Adrian Schneider 10-12-2006 03:44 AM

It's not really "tested" in its current state... but here I go anyway.

I downloaded and imported the product but received this error.

They added execution order in 3.6...

In the XML file, you can just remove any instances of it (I beleive it is an attribute for each <plugin>).

JohnBee 10-12-2006 06:21 PM

Okay I changed
Code:

<plugin active="1" execution order="5">
to
Code:

<plugin active="1">
Did the template changes.

Is there anything else I need to do other than close a thread for the separator to appear? So far nothing is happening.

Adrian Schneider 10-12-2006 06:57 PM

Did you set the option in the AdminCP (new option group at the bottom)?

BTW I also have a showthread edit which shows a friendly message to staff/thread starter/other people depending on what they can do.

JohnBee 10-12-2006 07:46 PM

Well that makes sense :)
I don't see the option in AdminCP though... can you tell me where it's suppose to appear?

Adrian Schneider 10-12-2006 07:47 PM

It should have added a new setting group to the bottom of the list of setting groups. I can help you over MSN if you'd like.... far faster lol

my contact info is in my profile

Adrian Schneider 10-16-2006 05:37 AM

Just an update for anyone else who is interested:

We have it working on John's site now, as well as 2 of my own boards. When a thread is closed, thread starters see a notice saying they can open/close the thread, regular users see a notice saying if they should create their own thread if they have a similar issue, and staff see a notice saying that the thread starter can open/close it.

I'm also going to make a simple script to open/close the thread so I can add a simple link/button saying Open Issue or Close Issue.

When I get some spare time I'll package it all up and release it here.

ibuddy 10-16-2006 08:21 AM

look forward to this....
