I need help about hosting services

I'm getting trouble in finding hosting, my currently shared server is down for two weeks with no responding so I think I should choose another one which is better.

I happened to find this: http://www.omnis.com/webhosting.php
it's super cheap as you see, but I don't know anything above that

some others are cheap and good too:
http://hostgiga.com/hosting-packages.html
http://www.goodydomains.com/
http://mxhub.com/web-hosting-smx.php
http://www.powweb.com/webhosting.html

omnis.com seems to be the best since it offers 100GB bandwidth a month.

but then again, I need your suggestions.

thank you very much.

http://www.surpasshosting.com is a very good host, tough on their policies about no bots or irc on shared but they from what i have seen they give alot for a little and their service is great and they even use Vb 3 for their forums:D

deathemperor 08-19-2004 05:40 AM

thank you, the link http://www.surpasshosting.com/ is dead.

you meant that's good ?

AN-net 08-19-2004 05:55 AM

um it works for me...

EvilLS1 08-19-2004 10:49 AM

I use http://hostcove.com/ .

$11.95 /mo
- 1000 MB webspace
- Unlimited Email accounts
- 400 GB/month transfer
- Unlimited MySQL databases
- PHP, MySQL, Frontpage, CGI
- Cpanel control panel system

They do have some downtime occasionally but customer support is excellent.

I'm hosted with the guys over at http://www.viper.uk.net - great service and support :)

deathemperor 08-19-2004 03:09 PM

comparing http://www.viper.uk.net with http://hostcove.com/ it's far more than different

does it really 'the money says the quantity' ?

NEVER buy hosting based on a low price. In hosting these days, you definitely get what you pay for. Many of the low-priced hosts are internationally-based, offer no useful support, or are fly-by-night.

Having said that, I use http://www.hostmatters.com/ . On my third year, I believe.

@Dean, I meant EvilLS1 offered a site which is far cheaper than yours.

@HellFear, I can't get to surpasshosting.com so don't worry, thanks anyways

@filburt1, that site looks good. Actually I need about 30GB bw a month, but that price seems to be above my afford. I'll talk with my admins about this tho. Thanks for the link.

AN-net 08-20-2004 04:42 AM

Well I was only giving my reccomendation, in the hosting industry you get what you pay for, it's as simple as that :)

Beermonster 08-20-2004 09:23 AM

cheap is not always cheerfull when it comes to hosting, there's a lot of "wanna be hosts" a few things to check first would be
1. do a whois on the domain see how long it's been registered, it will give you an idea how long they have been going.
2 check forums like www.forum2.co.uk and www.webhostingtalk.com
3. never ever ever use a company called eukhost.com just read the thread on forum2.co.uk and you will see what I mean.

And if you really get stuck I have a reseller account and can set you up with some space :)

Dean C 08-20-2004 09:30 AM

Also don't go with www.oneandone.co.uk <-- worst host ever in my experience :D

deathemperor 08-20-2004 11:10 AM

thanks everyone, my hosting was back after 14 days down.

I'll check all the links here, I hope I could find a better hosting.

Well...

I was in the same predicament and went with ahosting company which offered dedicated IP addresses (which for me was a big plus).

BLAH!!! http://www.ixwebhosting.com <------THEY SUCK MAJOR MOOSENUCKLE!!!

Anyway...found the ultimate BADASS Host.
ONWEBUSA.NET

I am very finicky about who hosts my sites cause I can't stand being down even for 1 hour let alone 14 days.

Don't be alarmed by their pricing...look them up on ebay, thay have their Platinum Plan on Ebay for $3.99 a month....

Trust me on this one.....I am surprised and VERY VERY Pleased!!!

Ah, when little kids with bad language get dedicated servers.

Mommy should have took away the credit card.

Given that you admin for them...hardly an unbiased opinion.

On-topic: I seriously advise checking out WHT (www.webhostingtalk.com) for what people's experiences of various hosts are prior to making a decision. Don't just base it on Price. If someone else has a very good experience with a company, look around to see if others have too.

I was with surpasshosting, but the amount of downtime and huge server loads (probably due to other users on the server running 'naughty' scripts, but still..) were enough to make me move on.
Throw in the fact that the 1st level support staff are unable to accomplish simple tasks, the communication between departments is lacking (I purchased an addon domain, but Billing neglected to tell Support, and we went round in circles), and the much-vaunted 90-day money back guarantee takes over a month to even answer emails about, and I advise anyone who wants a host where their site is up reliably..don't go with Surpass.

www.hostmatters.com is excellent for those people who don't want to be able to control their reseller account types...or resell. They keep their server loads under 1 at all times...whereas Surpass support staff once told me 'between 8 and 12 is reasonable'.

Any company will have had good and bad reviews no matter how large or small. An open forum regarding web hosting is like any forum. Most people go to report problems, and not to say that everything is running fine.

Everyone has a different experience with any service they subscribe to, online or off, and reacts differently to various situations. The only perfect host is the one that is perfect for you, and you only.
