v3 Articles 1.0.1 - Hack to solve "thumbnails not showing"-problem
 

Ok, the thumbs problem was really an issue for me and therefore I figured out how to fix this problem.

At first: The problem is not that the thumbs are not displayed correctly, they are not stored correctly! So after applying this fix, only new attachments thumbs are shown, old attachments must be reattachted manually.

The reason is that John used a function from vB to generate thumbs which has been modified in 3.03.

Please replace the articleattachment.php with the new one. If you have changed anything before this hack, please download the hacked version and search for "arpy" to find the only 2(!) additional lines in it and patch your file.

also, why not post this modification inside the thread related to v3 articles instead os releasing it individually ??

for some reason my thumbnails still do not show.. would there be any reason why?

Did you try it with a new uploaded attachment?

The only reason I would expect is that there is no gdlib installed or configured. There is no error handling when creating the thrumbnail...

I installed v3articles yesterday, it took me hours to find all the fixes in the 25-pages thread (the SQL prefix fix and I also had the SQL-error because of not saving the vb-options).

I just did the fix for myself - and because I saw there are many people having the same problem I released it. If this is the wrong category, it can be moved.

Unfortunalely, John seems to be very busy and he is not editing his release post with any updates - which would be the best solution.

Arpy, could you elaborate on how the thumbnails are different in 3.0.3? I'm having the same problem showing thumbs in 3.0.3 with my gallery hack:

Edit: Ok, I found it in your thread: It is definitly a different problem.

Has the thing where, when you delete an article the attatchments don't delete?

And are they stored in the file system if you have it enabled?

I just fixed the storage of thumbs as described above - nothing else.

The ARTICLE Tab is not showing at the top for Vbindex Portal Page...It works fine for my Forum page though....PLEASE HELP!

Here are the Screenshots. The first one is of the forum which has the Article Tab there fine...But the second one is of the Portal page which doesn't have the Article Tab at all....

Thanks for this hack man , it fixed one of two of my boards main problems. thats so so much. Now if anyone can help me with the other . which is something concerning vbaffiliates and the images to do with making the box small and large. post it plz! :disappointed:

I'll add some thanks here too. Made it work. I added the lines, to the original articleattachment.php and it didn't work, just replaced the file and it did. Could have been some stupid small error on my part or not, just letting people know who may be going thru same thing.

Thumbnails now show, but not as thumbnails!! GD is installed (thumbs are working throughout the rest of the forum)

Running on Windows IIS --- any ideas? I can't release this to my users like this :)

Hey guys great - thanks for this ..... arpy , i now get the file that says i have an attachment , but still no photo - GDLIB is installed , and version 2 is running , everything on that side seems ok - thumbs created for the main boards , but in articles all i get is the icon /images/misc/file.gif ??

Im wondering is there a reason for this ?

Its a new attachment , old article ? might that be the problem ?
