Adsense Revenue Sharing Hack - Very Cool

I recently ran across this hack that shares Google Adsense revenue with remembers. It works by allowing users to input their adsense ID and a percentage of the time it displays their ID for the ads in forums and topics which they participate. Very cool. There are basic requirements such as number of posts, etc. If this an existing hack? If not, what would it cost to get it made for me? Specific details are at...

If you have info please post it. If you are interested in developing this for me please PM or email me at sales@travel-intl.com.

Thanks
Tom

I might be wrong, but doesn't that violate Google's Terms of Usage for AdSense?
I though an account was tight to only one site ...

I thought the same thing KirbyDE

Who knows. But the sample principle for the hack is what I am after. If Google cops forbid it, when a different textual ad company could be inserted instead. I am still interested in the hack...

Regards,
Tom

> a different textual ad company could be inserted instead
Are ther any except Overture which will only accept very large sites?

ntventures 07-18-2004 11:54 PM

I just read over the Adsense terms and didn't find anything that states this would be a violation. If any coders could post their thoughts on what it would take to get this developed, that would be great.

Thanks
Tom

This is from the Adsense FAQ:

4. Can I show ads on more than one site?

The HTML code we provide you with is valid for any page in any site on which you want to display Google ads. However, you may only place the AdSense ad code or WebSearch code on sites that comply with our program policies and that you own or are legally authorized to act on behalf of for the purposes of Google AdSense. We also monitor all sites in AdSense to ensure that all pages displaying Google ads comply with our program policies.

So a terms & conditions statement that members are legally authorized to insert their ads on your forums pages would cover that Google's requirement.

I'm not really concerned with their statement. As I said if it doesn't work out with google a different ad company could be substituted.

I'm most interested in hearing from coders interested in developing this hack for me.

Thanks

Are any developers interested in taking this project with me? If you are concerned over the legal implications with Google (shouldn't be an issue) it could be altered to instead allow users to upload their own banners and then they would get ad time based on their threads/posts. Is anyone interested in pursuing a varation of this hack?

Regards

I am still interested in hiring a coder to develop this hack for my forum. Instead of using adsense, I would like it to allow users to upload their own 468x60 banners. If anyone is interested, please PM me. I need to get this going ASAP.

Thanks
Tom

This is not against google's TC....if the owner of the site gives the permission to allow the adsense to be run on his site, it is ok by them.. ;)

Yeah I am a member of www.namepros.com and he has this but he did it on his own by taking tthe idea from digitalpoint.com. He wont make it a hack and wont let me pay him to install it on my forum. :(

This is a great idea. I want to do this on my own forum (in the "Content" areas, which really reward community participation). In order for this to work you need:

1. Custom Profile Fields (not a big deal, built in)
2. Some way to randomize a value (in a template?)
3. Conditional to use one value (user's adsense id) or another (site's) based on random value

Shouldn't be hard.

#2 - javascript! Didn't think of that before.

I might be able to put this together over the weekend.

dune 09-24-2004 06:56 PM

Also, I mentioned this elsewhere and there was a concern that it would "promote" fraudulent clickthroughs by the id-holder. To prevent that, we can compare the post-userid with the viewing-userid and only show the site's adsense id in that case...

venomx 09-24-2004 07:01 PM

The ones I have seen dont show the users ads to the user. It shows another posters or the sites...

No, it doesnt. Digital point uses your own ad code 50% of the time and theirs 50% of the time in threads you begin. How would it be against tos to use your code on another site with the site owners permission?

He has been doing this for some time. Google would have stopped him by now if it was a problem.

GuyFromChicago 10-02-2004 08:46 PM

Has anyone made this hack available? I'm interested in using it in one of my forums.

venomx 10-02-2004 09:14 PM

I had a person offer to do it but I dont have the cash for it now :(

GuyFromChicago 10-02-2004 09:28 PM

If the prices is right I have the $.

Anyone interested please contact me via PM or post here.

I have contacted google about this and they didnt have a problem with it as long as its used on a adsense verefied site.

Ive got my own system where users can purchase adsense impressions using points via the store...take a look at http://www.devdreams.com/forum

That is very interesting. I would think that this wouldn't last. It encourages your whole forum to be aware that google adsense is there, and might create an environment for fraudulent clicking. I wouldn't go there personally unless Google swore up and down that I wouldn't be penalized.

Very nice hack Python2, i really like the idea.
