Have you upgraded to 3.0.2?

I've read that there might be problems if you have hacks installed and you upgrade.

Anyone had any problems?

I have vB 3.0.0 running and I dont feel upgrading because I have over 15 hacks and lots of small personal tweaks :D

Hacking make any upgrade harder, it is recomended that you always stay up to date.

Oblivion Knight 07-04-2004 06:35 AM

I had around 34 hacks installed, plus a few custom tweaks..

I've ran the upgrade script and re-modified the changed templates and haven't run in to any problems so far.. I'm currently in the middle of re-adding the file changes for the hacks.

LOL And that surprises you? ;)

Considering we haven't had a new version/s in months, a quick release isn't all so bad. :D

I'm in the process of upgrading from rc4 to 3.0.3. The upgrade scripts went flawlessly as expected (I have a ton of hacks installed too). Next comes reinstalling all those hacks and doing the template edits and praying that everything will still work right.

Erwin 07-06-2004 02:47 AM

The upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 took me 3 hours, but the one from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 only took 15 minutes. :)

Vman 07-06-2004 03:44 AM

Well, after a little of this and a little of that I got it to work with no problems!... Some hacks did put columns in certain areas of the sql that needed to be removed for the upgrade to work, but no big deal...

Is it common to have steady updates? (Sorry, new owner here)

I upgraded to 3.0.2 and spent about 3 hours reinstalling and adjusting files to work. The upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 was only about an hour.

I'd just like to say I'm really appreciative of the fact that modified files are listed in upgrades.

Releases usually aren't that fast, but they have been a few times in the past. Case in point: 2.3.1 -> 2.3.2.

nirmah 07-08-2004 02:57 AM

Is this new release crucial for your board?

I've got one of the boards still running 3.0.1. o.o;;

ap0c 07-08-2004 03:20 AM

took about 3 1/2 hours, probably less time if the tv wasnt on;) Lost 2 hacks that dont seem to work anymore though.

Reeve of shinra 07-08-2004 04:22 AM

out of curiosity, which 2 hacks?

btw: is there an easy way of finding out what aspects of the templates have changed? I have like 20 to go through.

House_of_Crazed 07-08-2004 09:32 AM

Shinra -

Just click on "Find Updated Templates" in Admin CP in the listings for Style Manager

HoC

Reeve of shinra 07-08-2004 11:39 AM

Yeah I did that - but does it say where which aspects of those templates were edited? I would hate to revert and lose the customizations made.

Oblivion Knight 07-08-2004 11:45 AM

I've just about finished upgrading to 3.0.3..
I'm having problems with the "Multiple Thumbnailed Profilepictures" hack though.. :(

I also want to work on "touching up" a few things on the style too (though it can't be done on the live forum until next month, since we're in the vBotM vote at the moment).

filburt1 07-08-2004 01:22 PM

I upgraded effortlessly. Even my most complex feature additions are done only through phpinclude plugin scripts and template changes--as virtually every hack can be (read that very deliberately)--so as soon as a new version comes out, I upgrade.

Reeve of shinra 07-08-2004 05:29 PM

Filburt, -- i've meaning to ask about using phpinclude for hacks... what did you do for hacks that overwrite a portion of the main file - do you still do the edit or did you find a way around that?

colicab-d 07-08-2004 06:08 PM

I tend not to advertise the exact version of vb3 i run nor do i do much upgrading. At present it would be just too much of pain in the neck to do :S.

Mystictrunks03 07-09-2004 03:59 PM

didnt have that much hacks lol like 4 or 6 and it took me 20 min for the upgrade
