vB has released Upgrade 3.0.2 but there are problems!

It appears after reading the thread on vB.com you have to remove all hacks to 3.0.1 or 3.0.0 and then upgrade.

Reasone: It appears that some hacks, which are not listed, will created alot of problems with the upgrade on the sql and other stuff....

I wanted to share this info before alot of people add alot of hacks to their sites....Im luck to have only 3, which I will now remove and clear the sql of them as well, this way the upgrade to 3.0.2 will not be affected...

Also, they stated that if you don't want to upgrade, DO NOT USE YOUR Enhanced Editor Option....there are security issues with it and to just use standard mode for the Editor until you upgrade to 3.0.2

:surprised:

Or do the fix they posted. ;)

is their a list of hacks that are meant to cause these problems? or atleast a compatibility script floating around ala vb2 -> vb3 style?

Dean C 07-03-2004 12:12 PM

Unfortunately it's not Jelsofts responsibility to make their script compatible with modifications. You do modify your board at your own risk :)

Jacko 07-03-2004 12:25 PM

i had a few hack on my board and just upgraded fine. no problems with anything yet.

i weren't saying that in anyway and apologise if i came across that way, but at the same time, it would be nice, would be a nice add-on to this community to have such things available too. but atleast if we know what hacks are effected or tables we could work on fixes as a community. as i don't fancy rehacking my board from the ground up, the phrases alone would kill me.

On PainForums I was running vB 3.0.1 with numerous hacks including V3 Arcade, V3 Articles, Arcade Pass, vBAdvanced CMPS, uStore, Dynamic Forumhome and Announcements. I have successfully upgraded to vB 3.0.2 and have all of the above hacks working (as far as I can tell so far anyway :D). I still have a number of smaller hacks to get working, but I think most of my work is done. I'd say I have 2 to 1 1/2 hours into it so far...

Dean C 07-03-2004 01:09 PM

Sabe I was just saying that in general :) It wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular ;)

the Sandman 07-03-2004 01:17 PM

I just reinstalled the "Microststs" hack, and I'm seeing 2 extra queries for uncached templates on the vBAdvanced CMPS Homepage and V3 Articles page, and 1 extra query for uncached templates on the regular Forum pages.

How can I go about finding which templates are uncached and fixing them?

RichieBoy67 07-03-2004 01:34 PM

What are the added features of the 3.02 version that makes it worth re installing all my hacks???

Using debug mode, I've found that the navbar_uttstore_actions and adv_portal_topposters templates are uncached. Is this a problem and if so how can I fix it?

the Sandman 07-03-2004 04:43 PM

I fixed all of the above problems. :) I removed the Top Ten Posters module, files, and templates from my vBAdvanced CMPS, uploaded the uStore installer and re-installed the templates only, and found a small file edit I had missed in global.php. No problems and no uncached templates anymore!

Well after upgrading, it did not work, I had alot of database errors, so I took there advise and did what they said I needed to to correct it, still nothing, then after 2 hrs of farting around with it and trying to get it to upgrade, I went ahead and dropped my database and uploaded the backup, I also uploaded the back to the forum site...

BUT NOW that everything is restored back to 3.0.1

I HAVE NOT FORUMS TO SEEEEEEEE!!!! I can't get this back for the life of me....
The Portal works, but the main site does not! My forums are missing...Sooo now Im stuck after 4-5 hrs of trying to correct whoever got screwed up from the upgrade...

Anyone have any freakin suggestions, because at this point Im at a lost and I DON"T want to loose all my members and forums information....

Thanks in advance for the help!

Forums missing? this happend to me when I renamed my install directory :)

maybe that what happend to you or the content is different...

just a though since that happend to me while back, nothin to do with 3.0.2

Jordeh 07-05-2004 11:15 AM

I guess you have to rebuild the datastore to let the forums appear. Change one of your forums, doesn't matter which one... just change a letter or something and save it. It will rebuild the datastore.

You do NOT have to uninstall and reinstall hacks.

I've successfully upgraded my heavily hacked forums using a file compare program and a good CVS text file that I keep updated.

A bit more work when you install hacks means much much less work when it comes to upgrading.

As for upgrades interfering with hacks - this is always a risk - when you get a db error, you will need to edit the appropriate installxx.php file to change or remove the query and rerun that step again.

Vman 07-06-2004 03:42 AM

I have corrected the problem, thanks for the advice..it was very simple and I over looked it!....Every thing is working fine, infact I upgraded now to 3.0.3 with no problems.....
