Poll on front page
Is there any way to add a poll to the main forum page?
I dont use any portals, so I keep everything on my forum's index.php, and I want to have a poll there. Any easy way? |
One at a time please!
|
I would like to know if this can be done also.
|
Yes in the same way it made on a portail !

I'd like to put a poll on my main non-VB page like the one on vBadvanced, and I've even taken a look at the code, but I'm not astute enough with PHP to make it work.

Maybe we could try a $15 offer for this? |

Try asking on vbulletin.com or even on vbadvanced.com.

Do you want it to be pulled from a thread, or handled from the admincp?

One way to work this, is specify a forum to pull the last posted poll by whoever. The other way is to make a poll from the admincp. I think option 1 would be nicer overall. |
Ok, I'll look into it for you.

Thanks Death that would be wonderful. I am also keen to use this and am a but surprised that nobody has jumped on getting this installed.
Up until a few months ago I used Eve and due to spiralling costs shifted to VB, a good decision. But one thing I do miss is the ability to simply add a piece of java script to drag in a poll. Actually the eve system was quite cool in what they call Content Islands. In the admin Cp you could choose from a drop down which listed all the polls created by the community, you could then choose which poll you wanted, click go and it would come back with a piece of java you would add to your page. Users could then vote from your html page and then be taken to the forum thread to see the results and particpate in discussion. On the downside it did increase load and if the forums were down then your html page would take ages to load , if at all. Something like this would be a great addition to VB but in the short term I would just be happy for something which would enable the poll to appear in HTML and allow people to vote. It also assists in building the community as it directs people to the forum area once they click vote. |
It'd be great to see this working :)

Is it just the case that its just not possible maybe? |
I would enjoy this also!

I dont think its that hard, I mean, most portal hacks have this option, I dont see why it cant be included at the forum index.
I just lack the php skills :P |

Working on it now, shouldn't take too long.
|
Thanks Deaths, this is so appreciated. I look forward to seeing it.
:D |
Looking forward to it.

I'm really beginning to think this cant be done. It would be a really popular function in the same way you can put topics onto a site homepage. Maybe VB doesnt allow that functionality.
|
Well, bump.
|
should we just give up on this one. Its been going on for a year now. :D
|
I wont give up! :P
|
Well - I need it - guess I will write it - back in a bit
|
Lalala.
|
bump ok
|
And up it goes.
|
Bump!
|
Oh come on, it cant be that hard.
|
Can I join in on this bumping session?!!
I'd be willing to pay hard earned cash for this functionality. What are you guys thinking of how this would work? You have the poll on your non-VB home page and the user votes and the page refreshes with the poll results, or, the user gets taken to the forum post for the poll results? I'd prefer the first option, but with a link at the bottom 'Discuss this more in the forum' or something like that. I want to add a poll to my site, but if I can integrate it with my forum too, that would be nice. |
