Okay, so I need to know if there is a want for this...

But I needed Vbulletin and PHPNuke to talk to each other, and I have succeeded in doing so in such a way as to make both of them use the VB_user table and have everything that each system needs to run from a user's standpoint.

I have also kept it so that any new modules that come out and are installed still work properly without need to mess with VB templates at all.

I've still abit of work to do on cutting down the needed files and what not for PHPNuke, but for the most part it is operational.

You can view it at http://www.noblepagan.com. The forums and the nuke side use their own templates so far, but I am working on integrating the nuke side into the VbTemplating system.

So here is my question, is there a want for the integration of the two systems. If there is then when I get Nuke to be in the VbTemplates without losing the modules installation function, then I'll go ahead and release it. If not, kewl, no sweat off me back.

(It took approx. 86 hours of going through both codes to get this to work, and I've prolly another 120 to go before I'm even comfortable enough to allow it out, but it can be done.)

Enjoy!

why not?

Zachery 06-14-2004 02:00 AM

Why do you need it? id think it would be simpiler to use a portal that is already out and code any moduals your self.

I needed it because the individual modules are a b*tch to code out each one individually, and no one has even tried to integrating the two, and I hate the implementation of each and every one of the portal systems out there. Just a personal issue I have.

Just in case I didn't clarify this, I've already done it, so I don't need it now, but I did. Now I'm just workin on getting it cleaned up abit...

Because in general phpnuke sucks arse

Boofo 06-14-2004 03:19 AM

I'd definately be interested in this. It looks great on your site! How is it on queries?

I prefer PostNuke to the PHPNuke implementation, however, I really despise their new "Xanthia" theme engine crap...I've tried each and every portal out there and none do what I want them to. i.e. I need the stories, and encyclopedia, and journals, and what not, and I need them to be 100% seperate from the forums, not part of, but I also need them to run off of the same database for the users and permissions.

Basically I needed a seperate system for the forums and the main site, but the users to be integrated. Since no one had take the initiative, but so many have asked on both ends, I figured, ++++ it, why not? So I did it. I just need to know if anyone else wants it or not. If not, then I can just hardcode for my site, if they do, then I'll continue to dynamic code the thing for folks to use. If you want the systems to be seperate, but integrated, I have done that. If you can handle the portals running 100% off of the forums, then use the portals. That's all.

Ya know, I'm not sure ROFL. I don't think it's too heavy on em, since I've tried to cut down on Nuke's original code. I know that in the integration, the Your_Account module lost about 1500 lines of code, so at least the file sizes are smaller :ermm:

I'll run a few checks on the system after I template it and get it into vb as a backend. Right now nuke is still hardcoded into itself.

Yea if you get this out I'd sure love it :)

Cyricx 06-16-2004 10:23 PM

I'd be interested in this integration as well. :)

well... actually, I was about to go out and see if anyone was able to integrated PHP-Nuke and vB3 together cuz it would be a great addition :) So... GO FOR IT!!

and good luck man :)

Sovereign 06-24-2004 01:15 AM

YES! Exactly what I need!

alfaowner 07-25-2004 10:02 PM

paulyy 07-26-2004 01:21 AM

yes man go ahead we need it

krohnathlonman 07-26-2004 06:29 PM

Nuke sucks big time! it's always horribly slow and using nuke is like putting a giant "hack me" sign on your site.

Anybody using nuke make sure you use a PHP caching system cause otherwise the performance of Nuke is absolutely unbearable! it calls for so many files and the code is incredibly bloated.

alfaowner 07-26-2004 06:55 PM

actually i am using post nuke with the security patches, thanks for the warning though

It couldn't hurt to share your success with others, because its major thing like this that attract even the slightest usergroup which means more people to come to vB :D

I would probably install it myself on this one site of my friend which is heavily dependent about PhpNuke.

Sovereign 07-27-2004 12:17 AM

I am still dying to see this, but I am also trying to code something myself. However, don't expect much, my PHP is terrible.

Alright, check it out, I just don't have the time to package this up real nice like, but anyone who wants to run through the code I will supply them with the coding of both and they can run through it to find the changes that I have done to make the system work.

I apologize, but I just did not keep track of the changes, and I have no clue what I did truthfully. I did it on a 5-day no sleep code spree....Any interested parties can feel free to contact me to discuss particulars.
