[secret] tag (secret text in posts)
 

With this special tag you can have "secret" messages in the posts.

For example, in a post I can write:
[secret=John]Happy Birthday, John[/secret]

And that text (happy birhtday) will be readable by John only, and nobody else
in the forums (well, the admin of course).

Since this is a tag it can be used anywhere in a post.

Some of the features:
- Hidden text only seen by intended user
- Hidden text seen by admin also
- Text cannot be revealed by (seeing only the post in showpost, previewing the thread while replying, in the printthread view, while previewing in the threads list (forumdisplay), in the preview on the search).
- Useful for text that is intended to be in the same post and where a pm would be clumbersome

is it possible to add more then one username with it ie user1,user2,user3 etc

no, it's not. But you can write several secret tags (one for each user)

what happens if you quote it?

Could you make it so that one can send secret messages to a usergroup (by typing the usergroup id or something) ? Or have a secret messages option where we can choose a usergroup from a drop down menu ?

If you quote it you cannot see the secret tag, a secret tag that can be seen by using a quote or previewing a thread would be pretty pointless ;)

What's the use if you can just use the PM system? :P

I'd love to use something like this that supported usergroups and/or multiple users.

Did you test it? Currently in my forum guest/unregistered users cannot see the secret messages.

Yes. Members showed us where and what we've posted between the secret tags when they logged in again. I've logged out and saw all the text.

Do you allow guest/unregistered to view other's messages? ;)

I agree with you in that would be a major bug. I am willing to fix it but I am unable to reproduce it.

What version of vbulletin are you using?
Is the secret text viewable in the thread (showthread) or in other area while not logged in?

Attached a screen of how it behaves in my forum.

vb3 gold 3.00 and in the attach you can see the problem :(

1. Option to activate the tag per forum
2. Moderators kann see all secret tag in forums where they are moderators

One problem with the hack. When they have email notification on, and they recieve an email showing the reply, it shows the secret text in there as well.

A little security flaw if you will.

Another flaw:

Moderators can read secret tags that are not meant for them to read by clicking the edit post. That's not a problem because they can see what everyone says anyway. BUT, is there a way that keeps them from seeing admin's secret tags? Such as not allowing them to edit admin's posts?

You could always install the Message Editing Hierarchy Hack :)

would this work on 3.0.7 and have all the bugs been fixed liked being emailed the secret text, logged out users able to read the text etc...???

I can't seem to get it to work on .8. It doesn't give any error it just doesn't parse the bb code. It shows up as [secret=name]Blah[/secret].

i don't know what you guys are doing wrong... when I said second instance I mean what it tells you to change is there twice... change the second... I love this hack... works for 3.0.8 and 3.0.9
