And yet again
Any updates on any gallery hack for vB3?
|
Dont make me buy photopost >_<
|
Why wait? PhotoPost has been out for a long time and is well integrated.
|
I was waiting for a gallery made specifically for vB3 :P Plus, photopost is pretty expensive, I'd rather use the same money to renew vB for yet another year :P

Coppermine has terrible vb integration, check out insanctus's homepage, he's selling a pretty nice gallery script and quite cheap too :)
|
With SpeedStreet's hack it makes it alot easier to integreate and it is free. I've heard good things about Coppermine. ;)
|
Gah, $50 >_<
I think I will be switching back to vB2, I mean, like half of vB3 hacks you have to pay for! |
give it a bit of time and they'll slowly but surely be released for free
|
It's a challange to develop and then support a complex modification with no financial benefits and the enivitible flood of "it doesn't work for me" posts. Most people lose interest at some point and its left to others to carry the burden. Given the time some people put into their efforts (and the time it saves you from having to write it yourself), its not unreasonable to think that some people would charge a small fee for their services.
If someone isn't supporting a free mod, then you really don't have much to complain about. |

And I agree with MPDev on this one, look at vbulletin..... we pay alot for it , but can get something close for free. I own photopost, I own hivemail , vbulletin.... and a few other things. I personally plan to do alot of upgrading as people who buy ask for options, this takes alot of time and effort, where if I released it free, the beta would have been the end of it. One day I may release a light with alot less options, but you have to remember hours of coding and an on going project is alot of work. Even hacks that start as free here go pay, this is more then fair, and if it is a good hack, I would pay it in a minute to save me the time. |
I've suggested a Paid Mod area as I think there is alot of demand for decent mods. Adding a financial incentive for the writers would definately encourage them to keep their products up-to-date and offer some support. If I can save even a few hours, thats worth something to me.

I think the fact we can discuss paid mods is more then enough and fair, but it does make for more hunting when you need something. I am working on a script on my site (off and on) that will allow others to sell their work on my site. |
I am eventually going to buy a gallery script, tonight. So its either that one or photopost :D
What I was really thinking when replying, is that with vB3, during years 2002-2003 (when I joined in 2002), hacks were free, and there were loads of them! Now, each hack is for sale, and every hack has its own page. Its just not the same anymore. But, I think I'll just buy it now. |
Coppermine Rules!!
It is free, it has a good support. So why should we bother with BUYing another software that does the same thing? |
Yeah...besides...gallery is just a small part of a community anyway. At first, it might be used a lot and get a lot of attention...but give it like half a year...people will get bored of it and won't visit it the gallery anymore. I've seen this with many many boards with very awesome gallery.
So...settling for a free gallery is not that bad. |

It is all based on site, some have a use for gallery that is good.... others do not need anything more then a toss up area. Even with the lack of use of vBulletin options used I would not down grade. |
