Forgive my n00b question here -- but what is alt IP? Are you saying that vB captures another IP address than the one passed in the headers?

No,

The IP is the right one.
But some proxys also disclose the ip behind the proxy, in that case the first ip is the right one; the proxy ip, and the alt_ip is the one behind the proxy. (which doesnt work in all proxy) but it sure as hell saves time when spammers sign up with multiple accounts and the proxy changes, but the ip behind it doesn't.

That won't be possible, it is part of the title of the hack. It is just the title and not what shows once installed, I am sure you can live with it. Trolling the release isn't appriciated either, "stuff is lame" is not a worthy argument to take you more serious then the title of the hack itself.

Yes, I believe I wrote a hack for gamma to do this. I released it on some sites - I never updated it to version 3 gold though.

The HTL = Hack Tracking Log version of the hack, in the first post there is also an attachment called *.txt which are the text instructions.

i have Hack Tracking Log version installed..

OK maybe I am blind but I can not figure out how to actully Edit a phrase??
I go to phrase manager, edit the file but it doesn;t allow me to change anything??

Why add "biggest hack evah" ? It's clearly not the "biggest hack evah" and only serves to make people look at this thread more. A little childish.

It is called "a little job, humor" - I know it is new for vBulletin.org members, but give it a shot.

why should one need this?

Yesterday I noticed a weird username signing up and I kept my eye on this profile, later on 7 new members joined within 10 minutes.

I matched the profile and their main IP was different, but the IP behind (altip) was the same. The user made 1 spam post and quickly got his 8 accounts banned.

That is why I like it - for one reason.

this doesnt help much if the user has a dynamic IP does it?

Well, if we are gonna nitpick about this - a user won't sign up 8 times in 10 minutes with 8 new logins for each proxy. At least not the majority of abusers. And this is info based on experience.

If you don't like the hack, don't use it. No need to start acting cocky

It would be more useful then to integrate ALT IP in the user table, and have a new users manager option in admincp to spot users with duplicate IPs and duplicate ALT ips. I don't really have the time to look for each individual user signing up and cmparing his IPs though the newuser emails.

Btw, I agree that a little humor is nice. But I fail to miss the humor in naming this hack "the biggest hack evah" nor to write the name of the hack all in capital letters. If everyone did that, the hack database would look like a big mess in no time.

I like this little modification, but the comments from the killjoys are almost as good :D

I have downloaded it, but haven't yet install it.

One question. Does it sends the admin an e-mail every time a new user registers with the forums or every time he posts?

I am new to vB so it is not clear to me.
