Who this May Be? mod

This was very useful in vB 2.x.x. Can someone make one for vB3?

What are you requesting exactly?

MindTrix 06-06-2004 03:49 PM

I think he wants someone to convert the hack that showed you if a new member was another oldmember using a different log in????

Zachery 06-06-2004 04:00 PM

If so, the only thing you could do safely with vB3 was compare IP's

As the way vB3 now stores passwords and considering that some users might not want their passwords stored in a clear text format. The salt totaly throws everything off,

That would help out. Do you know how to do it?

wouldnt you get waaaay too many results on each search with ip's?? i mean most ISP's buy chuncks of ip blocks at a time... i cant see that as being an efficient way to track down a user

Usualy a person stays within a specific range of ip's because of how most companys do their DNS, it ensures they can trance an account quicker, however this is only for broadbad users, NOT Dailup.

yea but even than your gonna retrieve results that are within upto blocks of 50so you might have at least 5 or 6 diff users .. for a faily small forum of say 10,000 members .... that can be in that range... but on a larger forum say 100,000 members or more you're probably looking at at least 10-15 members with the same ip range

Zachery 06-07-2004 07:30 PM

Right, and there is no real good way to know who is who on the web, even with an alt ip, if its given you still really dont know who they are

I think Logician is planning to port this hack over at some point. It is possible to do a password comparison, but it can only be done at registration (or upon changing there password via the User CP) or when a user logs in as thats the only times when you get a "usable password" to compare with.

lifesourcerec 06-07-2004 07:37 PM

We have less than 1200 users at this point, so it would still work for us.

At registration is when you most need it to cut down on duplicate accounts.
