Can someone PLEASE make this?

Any chance of being able to make like a Top 5 (or whatever number) most wanted (in my case) system?

Users can pick from a drop down box thier top 5. Their first choice is worth 5 points, fifth choice is worth 1. Then you can view each member's top 5 via their profile, and also have a Top 5 forum page that shows the top 5 overall (based on points), any new additions, last wee/this week ranking tracker, and how many want it.

Thanks :)

C'mon, what the hell? Not even a freakin' reply?

Hurricane 04-08-2004 02:38 PM

Maybe a better description of what you want. What you posted here makes no sense to me. Explain it as though you do not know what it is that way we can know.

TouchingVirus 04-08-2004 05:43 PM

I agree with hurricane, i had no idea what the hell you were on about. It took many reads to figure out what exactly you wanted, and even now, its a little vague..

A voting system, where a user selects their TopX most wanted computer system, and when you view their profile you can view their topX most wanted systems...

I cant help at all, sorry..

Curll 04-08-2004 07:06 PM

Okay, sorry for being vague. I do that a lot, expect people to know. It's the manager in me, lol.

On the top nav bar, along with User CP, New Posts, etc, etc there's a link "Top 5". Or "Top Games" or "Top Cars", whatever your forum deals with. For this, I'll use movies.

Each user in their User CP has a Top Picks page or box or option. There are 5 drop down boxes with a certain number of movie titles. Each box has a ranking, 1 thru 5. 1 being the highest, 5 lowest. The user can rank their favorite movies, or what they're currently watching on DVD, or whatever the case may be.

The top ranked movie in the user's list would recieve 5 points, the lowest would recieve 1 point. You can view each individual user's top 5. But, also those points are added to a database for the entire site. So, adding up the movies, a overall Top5.php could be generated ranking the most popular movies.

Included on the Top5.php, aside from the most popular movies, you could see the active movement. If The Passion of the Christ was number 1 last week, but is number 3 this week, you can see "Previous position" next to it's current position. Or "NEW" if the movie wasn't on there last week. Maybe not weeks, but updated as specified by the admin.

For my site, I'd be using this to see what games people are currently playing on Xbox Live. If a hot new game is released, you could see that people are playing Splinter Cell: Pandora tomorrow the most, but Rainbow Six 3 is still right up there.

It'd work with movies, music, fantasy sports, etc. It's like the weekly movie/sales charts, only the users determine what's hot :)

I hope that helps. Ask any other questions if you want.

Mor bumping

Hurricane 04-09-2004 03:56 PM

I think it would be a pretty major hack. So I have to say that you will need to be patient and someone will pick it up.

Curll 04-09-2004 06:09 PM

No, do it now! NOW NOW NOW!

Or, whenever there's free time. You know, whatever works for them :)

I know it's pretty major, but I think a lot of sites would benefit from it.

They would indeed, but you doing 5 posts of spam, is not helping your case.

Curll 04-11-2004 02:32 AM

bump

Curll 04-16-2004 02:47 PM

Weekly bump

WizyWyg 04-16-2004 10:24 PM

And weekly bumps isn't gonna help you either.

Reeve of shinra 04-16-2004 10:31 PM

It would be a cool hack for the right forums.

assassingod 04-16-2004 10:37 PM

Why not just make an extra profile field where people can enter their desired systems?

Curll 04-19-2004 09:09 AM

It's too...plain. This is more interactive and fun, imo.

djnoz 04-19-2004 09:18 AM

This is an interesting idea, could be useful for a number of different types of websites. The main problem I see though, is maintaining the list of items. Someone would have to work hard at adding new titles (of whatever it is) to the db on a regular basis.

Slappy Nutz 04-19-2004 10:54 AM

Theres alway someone at every site that want to be in charge of "something" lol

Curll 04-19-2004 12:10 PM

Yeah, adding new items to the list can't be THAT hard, lol.

Unless you're a general underground music site and need to add 1000 new CDs a week. Even movies or DVDs, there are what? 10 mainstream releases everyweek at the most?

Slappy Nutz 04-27-2004 07:29 AM

Bump. Please, if anyone might wanna take a look into it :)

Curll 05-01-2004 08:32 PM

WhSox21 09-10-2004 04:26 AM

If you want it so bad post this in the paid requests forum. If you pay for it I'm sure someone would be more than willing to do it.

Jolten 09-11-2004 05:29 AM

Figure it out yourself. Hell in 4 months I could.
