Question

I'm just wondering what keeps happening to Kura's threads he keeps posting? I try to read them in a bit later they are gone :(

Chris Gwynne 02-26-2004 10:51 PM

Because the one he started turned into a free for all ++++ fest, so no doubt it was removed. If I was in the position of authority, I too would have removed it. So it's hardly a case of "all Kura's threads are deleted".

so why was his perfectly fine and VERY CIVIL AND FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL status update thread removed? There's tons of people awaiting his hacks, and here he tries to give them an update but that gets deleted... why?

[high]* Dan has read his post on another site.[/high]

He was advertising his hacks, along with prices. This is not allowed.

He wasn't advertising his hacks or prices in his thread stating he was not going to be visting here anymore.

Actually that is true... vBstats is free if you look at his site and HTL trafix is the only one who is selling anything through EvB and I don't remember him mentioning it at all.

Respectfully, as a moderator, I can see the thread in its entirety, and another moderator tagged the thread (including an exact quotation from within one of the posts) as an advertisement. This is not open to discussion.

Would you mind quoting that for me then? I have a copy of all the threads deleted and can't seem to find it anywhere.

filburt1 02-27-2004 01:31 AM

Your copy of the thread does not contain moderator notes. :)

- Deluxe version will come with extra files (one for each Quote Style) that can be used to have more elegant control (for a vB2 example, see: http://quotes.kurafire.com/ and check the URL's for the various links). Deluxe will cost $10-$15 only;
Zero tolerance for advertising means zero tolerance. The user was repeatedly warned about stretching the vB.org rules, and I myself gave him the ultimadum.

Deluxe what though? I've never heard him mention one time anything about a deluxe version of anything. And I do talk to him daily so I think I would know about it.

merk 02-27-2004 01:39 AM

And you removed an entire thread because he mentions a deluxe version on one single line?

Geezes. Edit buttons are good. (thats picking at straws by the way)

I removed the thread and I did so because of the flame war that was already underway and was only going to get wrose. Ive seen threads like these to many times, and it was just opening sore wounds within the community.

I made the call to remove it soley, no one on the staff was around at the time and I felt like it needed to be delt with asap.

So the way to deal with a status update "flame war" is to remove the entire thread and not to moderate peoples posts?

Okay.

ps- Thankyou for at least clarifying the position for that particular thread. Maybe you want to make sure filbert1 doesnt jump the gun with an incorrect reason next time.

Brad 02-27-2004 06:35 AM

Well imo the fact that the thread was even there stured up the trouble, even if it was not intended. Even if I did moderate the posts im willing to bet they would have come pouring back in within a matter of minutes.

At any rate I belive removing the entire thread was the better option in this case, or have you all forgotton the multiple threads we have had in the past month over the same issues that have gone the same way?

BTW I did not see him advertising when I moved the thread but that dose not mean he was not doing so. Filburt might have thought that is why I moved it as I did not leave a deletion notice.

Anyway this was not a call I wanted to make as I think an admin should have made it but noone where around at the time like I said, if they fell it was the wrong thing to do im sure they will restore the thread, otherwise it will probbly stay right where it is at.

Last I checked KuraFire was perfectly capable of speaking for himself. If he wishes to appeal against the decision to remove that or any other thread, he may contact the moderators who were involved (and he now knows who they were). Please let him fight his own war, or go law school if you really wish to become his lawyer.

And sorry for replying to a locked thread, but I won't be accused falsely (see attached).
