Auto Add Template To All Skins

This mod will enable you the feature to add a template to all skins installed
automatically, very good if you have multiple skins

Features:
- Option To Add To All Installed Skins
- Doesn't Add Template To Skin If It Already Exists

Enjoy :)

About time. Great work. :D

AN-net 02-10-2004 06:02 PM

this is great! definately should be added to the next version of vb3;)

Zachery 02-10-2004 06:20 PM

I think this shows how little people take advatage of how vBulletin 3 now works with child and parrent styles :)

with parrent and child styles any change made to the parrent style will flow down to all other styles

Global
-Style A
-Style B
-Style C

So any template added to Global will also appear in A B and C.

The system already functions like this, with out this hack :)

OmaniMan 02-10-2004 06:55 PM

Thanks Alot ...
Install :)

Yeah if your using child skins, but im not and i don't want to, so this helps me out a s**t load (since currently i have 8 skins) so yeah, its useless but usefull too

Zachery 02-13-2004 10:29 PM

Yes, you should ALWAYS have a Parrent child setup

Master
-SkinA
--SkinA Child
-SkinB
-SkinC
-SkinD
--SkinD Child
---Child of Skin D Child

Now adding a template to the master (defautl vB templates) makes things simple, and i dont mean the vB's Master either

Besides if i understand how your doing it now, what happens when you upgrade vBulletin to 3.0.0RC5 or 3.0.1
and the master style gets rewritten?

Agreed 100%.

Kumaro 02-16-2004 07:55 PM

it would be nice to be able to edit templates and it will alter all the styles if the template is present in it.

Zachery 02-16-2004 08:14 PM

You can already do this, its part of vBulletin 3's default features, its called Parrent and Child inheirtence.

Make a at the top most level, and all templates under the top most level will be changed, UNLESS a child already has this template changed.

tanhadil 05-24-2004 03:13 PM

where is the automatic template add option in admincp??

Zero Tolerance 05-26-2004 10:27 PM

When you go to add template, theres a drop down menu to add to all templates, but it seems this hack is pointless if you have a prent skin, if not then i suppose it is of some use

I have to ask:

If I have the vBulletin Style as a parent, I can have child styles that have different colours and all that jazz, but if I attach an entirely new style, say the vbulletin.nl one, isn't it that I have to install that one with NO parent style?

I just tested this, and it looks pretty horrible when I attach it to my default vB style.

When the new style is added to the Parent, which attributes of the Parent does it inherit at that point?

it would inherit anything that is customized in the parent style, but not customized in the vB.nl pro style.

PtP 08-14-2004 11:43 PM

"Installed" Thanks mate great hack! and just ignore the knockers mate it is a must for us people that use heavily modded styles as running them as a child screws them over.

I think I've got it now...

Staying with the vb.nl example:

If Floris made absolutely no changes to the threadbit template, then it would inherit the changes that have been made to its parent style's threadbit, but the FORUMHOME one, which he has modified, would not inherit anything?

[high]* kall thinks he should have really worked this out in the beginning :)[/high]

Right so, a really useful hack would be one that added new stuff on template EDITS, inserting the new stuff in the correct place on child templates with modified content.

Now there's a challenge. :)

Creed 02-26-2005 08:54 PM

How about a modification to this hack to copy new templates that were added to a child style, to be applied to the global style? Because I use a child style to customize quite a bit, then if I want to apply it to all styles (globally) I have to go and copy all the new/edited templates to the global style. THAT would save me a lot of time ;)

why thanks i've been looking for something like this!
