MySQL Fulltext Searching
Welp. Here it is, my official request for this hack. I know that vbulletin has said fulltext searching will be supported in a later version of vbulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93105) but quite frankly I want to reap the benefits of vb3 when it comes out instead of waiting for what seems like eternity for vb3 just to have to wait for a later version. :tired:
Our board's stats: Members: 67,265, Threads: 358,424, Posts: 3,388,146 We can't possibly use vbulletin without the fulltext searching ability and I know there are other boards out there that are in the same boat. I'm willing to start a fund for someone who can write a good fulltext searching hack for vb3 and I'm more than willing to throw $50 bucks into the pot. If we can find someone who is a reputable hacker this could turn out well for not only those who need the functionality but the person writing the hack as well. |
I'd be highly interested too, would also put some ? into the pot :)
|
yes me too i am willing to put some money for this hack
|
me too.
|
disboards.com will kick in $100.00 if it works as well as the last one!
|
I second this request. :)
(but sorry, no money) |
yeap i would be willing to pay aswell. I requested as soon as vb went to RC. Very important for us with the larger boards :)

Even invision powerboard 1.2 has this as standard

What a shame that vB does not have it out of the box yet ;)
|
I completed this hack earlier this week because our very large forums could not use the usual search engine. Since the license doesn't allow me to just send out my search.php and I don't have the time to package it up nicely it is now in someone else's hands to do that for me. Hopefully you'll see it soon.
It took me less than a day to put it together. It consisted mostly of commenting out a few hundred line of vB's phrase logic (which is replace by mysql's boolean search capabilities) and then changing a couple of lines of the SQL code. From the user's stand point it looks EXACTLY the same as the old search engine :) |
Hmm, what about just runnig a diff on your modified search.php and the original?
Takes only secs to do and AFAIK would not break the license. Maybe HTL could also be used? Come on, this would definitly make MANY guys happy :) |
Fear not. I'm working on it. I have a diff done, and I'm just waiting for my partner in crime to test it out, and to finish up the instructions.
If he would wake up, I could get this done with and we could all be happy :) It took some work to get the diff done, because the version Yogi gave me was against gamma, and the change in code is huge (the new search.php is ~600 lines smaller), so I had to do a little manual patching. Maintaining it going forward might be a bit of a pain, we'll just have to see though. I'll post more when I'm ready to post it. |
i'd like to donate to the hack creator let us know when your ready :)

Our site is moving hosts this week so this hack will probably be put on a backburner until more time is taken for it. Do not fret, it will come. I'm considering setting up a private forum in our community for those who have experience with hacking or would like to help troubleshoot, test and get this thing out into an available release asap. Anyone interested, please pm me. |
Does this handle multibyte character language correctly? I am very interested in this as well, because the standard VB3 search does not work at all for multibyte language.
Thanks. |
This should be as the default vb3 gold ...
|
3.1 will

Apparently vB 3.1 will have this, but not vB 3.0 Gold. |
3.1 will have it but thats too many months away....
Anyone had any luck with this yet? |
Ok for your proposal.
