PhotoPost PopUp vB Code

This mod provides for a Select popup box which displays thumbnails of a users PhotoPost gallery. Clicking on a thumbnail inserts the vB Code for that image into the text area. NEXT and PREV links are provided to scroll through a users photos (16 displayed at a time).

Mod installed at http://www.photopostdev.com

+ + To Do

vBulletin files to edit: 1
PhotoPost files to add: 1
Queries to Run: 0
Templates to add: 1
Templates to modify: 1
Time to install: 15 Minutes

+ + Known Issues

Mod assumes PhotoPost and vB are installed into same database. If you have them in seperate databases, you will need to use a mysql_select_db() to switch to PP and then back to vB in the pppanel.php file.

Dean C 01-29-2004 03:06 PM

No problem - thanks for sharing your work :)

Ghostsuit 01-29-2004 03:24 PM

ok how does this handle a user with over a 1000 images?

Chris|vB 01-29-2004 03:29 PM

Ditto maybe buy this soon just little what im looking to pay

MPDev 01-29-2004 03:44 PM

It shows 16 thumbnails at a time. So, the user could scroll through their thumbnails. It sorts from their latest uploads backwards.

TheComputerGuy 01-29-2004 04:55 PM

is there a way to covert from coppermine to this? I am needing/watning a way for users to be able to have their own gallery

colicab-d 01-29-2004 05:39 PM

thats a nice little idea... i may actually consider photopost now

MPDev 01-29-2004 05:44 PM

I'm looking into writing some converters - if someone has some skillz, I'd be glad to help out, don't know how quick I can get it done with everything on my plate. I haven't run Coppermine or some of the others we've had requests for so will have to get up to speed on those as time permits.

Working on some more mods for vB in the meantime....

MPDev 01-29-2004 06:11 PM

I modified the attachment to use a $pp_prefix variable to make it less confusing.

13th_Disciple 01-29-2004 10:11 PM

photopost is a great product.. i have it and installed with vB 2.3.4.. gonna upgrade to the new version once i upgrade vB itself to 3.. also, reviewpost is a great product, but a man can only afford so many goodies at a time..

Natch 01-29-2004 10:39 PM

I've gotta rain on this parade: I had come really bad support for photopost when I paid for it, and was repeatedly told that if I was unhappy then I could shove it - I kept going back for about 3 weeks to try and get support, but got 3 replies in that time and all basically said "It should work ... you mean it doesn't ? Oh that's a shame ... it should work ..." you get the drift.

So not everyone is happy with Photopost ... maybe it's improved - ?

Natch: This really isn't the place to discuss individual issues but since you brought it up... I found 2 support threads that you started in our forums.

On 11/14/02, you posted a question about bulk uploading, then replied later that day that you resolved the problem. But you asked about a new problem in this same thread - we always ask customers to post a new thread for each and every issue, as replies within a thread are always viewed as part of the initial question.

On 12/9/02, you posted a complaint about private messaging support. We do not now, nor have we ever, provided support via private messaging. I think our lead developer replied to your initial private message, but all support is provided via our email support system or via our forums. After two days of not getting a followup reply via private messaging you posted one followup reply and stopped communicating.

I can locate no other support inquiries for you and I believe your problem was the result of not using the right method of getting support and maybe a bit of impatience. We provide support via our forums and email and strive to competently answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours. Please note as well, we have hired 5 support people since December 2002.

The vast majority of our customers are satisfied with our software and our support. If anyone isn't, I wholeheartedly invite you to use our contact form to contact me
personally so I can help.

I'll be honest, for the longest time I never checked my PMs. Our forum list was so long and the PM indicator was at the very bottom that I never really paid much attention. I turned off PMs, but then I couldn't send them, so turned it back on. While I try to respond to PMs, IMs, emails, tickets and whatever else people send my way - it's not always possible to accomidate everyone. Using our forums or trouble ticket system allow other support people to be involved and lets me focus on development.

So, if I didn't respond to your PMs, you have my apologies.

Okiewan 01-30-2004 12:08 PM

Hey Michael, nice hack. How many folks do you assume have their PP and vB info in the same DB?

Gimme that header-inc that allows for vB to store css in files (and not blow-up PP integration) and I'll say all kinds of (nice) stuff about you here, lol.

FWIW; PP is really good stuff, support is fine. It's not "instant" like we may be used to on this site and others, but comes in a very reasonable amount of time.

Dean C 01-30-2004 03:25 PM

Just to highlight that individual photopost support, questions, and complaints should be directed to photopost.com. THis is a thread to offer support (if PhotoPost wishes) for the vB addon.

This is not intirely true. Have a look at your own forums. Where are the complete instructions that WORK?

I have used your contact form an await your response.

For those that have not purchased this gallery yet but are thinking of getting it? Do your homework first. Ask them to provide you with COMPLETE instructions that work. Not half answers explaining things like "search this forum, the answer is here" Or "Look at photopost dev it works there just fine"

Unfortunately I've seen plenty of posts on their support forum where their final solution to a problem is "well it works for most people...." ;)

MPDev 01-31-2004 06:36 PM

If you are running in two databases you would insert:

mysql_select_db("photopostdb"); at the top of the script and
mysql_select_db("vbdatabase"); at the bottom of the script.

This is probably a good thing to document for the final verison.

FYI, PhotoPost.Com contains complete installation and user guides in the Members Area. And I take strong exception to Nighteyes claim - it's simply not true. I'd ask that those responding in this thread respect the Moderators wishes so as to not cause any further problems.

ivanmcp 02-01-2004 12:04 AM

I am looking forward to try this hack out, but will give it some more time to evolve first.

I have just finished integrating PhotoPost with vB3 RC3 that share same db. With some minor adjustments left to do, I have to say that PhotoPost and vBulletin are now a deadly combination and future looks bright for both.

Check them out @:

memobug 02-01-2004 06:56 AM

I like the idea, but if someone moves a photo from folder to folder, wouldn't all the remote links break?

This isn't a problem with the hack, but how photopost stores its data. Moving the physical files around on the server is inefficient - that's what databases are for!

gmarik 02-01-2004 10:41 AM

Nice, if PP would have more of these things, but it happens so rarely, that they listen to the client wishes, they don't really upgrade it and it's quite sad. Something should be done about that! For example full style template integration with vB3 - that would save PhotoPost project ...

teksigns 02-04-2004 03:29 PM

SVTBlackLight01 03-23-2004 12:16 AM

By comparison with what we're used to with vBulletin, PhotoPost has been slow to develope, but the last few releases have made some good improvements. The hacks are starting to increase and get better.

I have some issues with the support, but as Dean has already pointed out this isn't the place for complaining and only detracts from the support for this hack.

I may give this a try after I make the move to vB3.

corsacrazy 03-26-2004 08:56 PM

what do i change here

Code:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript">

function updatePost(UBBCode) {

BodyVal = opener.document.vbform.message.value;

opener.document.vbform.message.value = BodyVal + UBBCode;

}

</script>

to make is so when clicked the code is inserted into the avatar url filed in modify avatar page :)

MPDev 04-13-2004 03:51 PM

I'm not sure - I assume you would have to find the name tag for that field and insert it in place of the vbform.message variable.

paratek 04-13-2004 04:34 PM

Works great Michael, thanks....

Has anyone figured out how to get it to work with WYSIWYG?

SVTOA 04-20-2004 01:29 AM

I'll give this a shot, I have VB3.0 and PP using the same database.

I would like to say that I've been a PP customer for a long time and Scott and Michael have both been very responsive to my questions and have provided top-notch assistance when I need it. Sometimes other members on the PP forums reply in a somewhat rude fashion, but that has happened here as well. I once asked Scott for help via e-mail, and while he kindly reminded me that support is supposed to be done via the PP website/forums, he still offered a solution in his response.

VB combined with PP makes for one heck of a nice website.
I will give this a go and see if I can make it work.

SVTOA 04-20-2004 02:08 AM

This works perfectly Michael.

VB3.0.0/PP4.7I

Members love it, nice work!!
