I am willing to pay for this hack for your time by PayPal

I want a hack that allows a free trial usergroup upgrade for 1 week to 1 month at no charge but I want it to only allow a user to do this once.

Let me know if you can do it and how much it will cost

You could possibly do this without using a seperate hack using the "User promotion setting" under Usergroups in the admincp. start a user off in a "trial" usergroup with some access, and then auto-upgrade to "paid for" after 30 days, then if they choose not to pay they don`t have access, and then make sure you have the setting for a unique email address for each registration set, and ban the free email sites like hotmail, yahoo, etc.. and that might work, at least till someone comes up with a better idea :)

It would really be nice though if this was just a type of account they could sign up for, or as an option they could select from user cp/when registering.

If you have a large community it could be a pain to do it individually, not to mention it would be very cool to have it be done automatically/quickly.

from my testings the promotion feature of vb3 is automatic, once the selected number of days (or even posts) have past the account it automatically changed to the different usergroup, there`s no need for a user or admin to intervien unless an upgrade is required before the end of the trial period.

Actually the way I would love for it to work would be thru the subsciptions, I have 800 or so member board and about 12-15% pay 4.99 per year for the ability to upload files have an avatar and signatures.

I have an Adult userbase so generating funds isn't very hard.

I can put a trial membership for .01 but they still have to use PayPal and costs me for them to get a free Premium upgrade.

I can easily manually upgrade people with a new catagory in the subscription manager but it's a pain.

Gc1 this can be accomplished by usergroup promotions :) if youd like help setting this up let me know.

The whole only do this once is sorta hard to control. that is the only part that would need to be hacked in.

But I don't understand how a time limit can be implemented with user promotions

When a user first registerd they get moved into the "Registerd" USergroup, you setup a promotion based on time, to move them into another usergroup that has no accesss. BUT if they have purchsased their full account they wont get moved into the other usergroup

Hate to break it to you but it is, this is done in vBulletin 3 by defualt if you took the time to learn the features

Hmm ... then please tell me how can one make a trial subscription for x ? (x > 0) that can be used only once?
For free one-time subscriptions you're right - this can be achieved using promotions - but it would be automatic.

Theres a difference between a trial subscription and a one time subscription?

I belive he wants to block users from signing up agagin to access another free trial.

Here's what I wanted and got

I have a 16-18% Premium Member base and it fluctuates very little, all I wanted was a "Get Your Feet Wet Free" option that allows someone to get a one time Premium Member status free and not allow them to abuse it by being able to do it again

I got exactly what I asked for and very satisified with the results and Kirby's effort to get the bugs out.
