Request: Ultimate Quote Hack
 

KuraFire's hack for vb2 is here.

Since I upgraded (to vb3 beta 3), this is the one hack my users and I have been holding our breath waiting for. Any chance this will be ported by KF (or attempted by somebody else)?

I'm doing a 'port' of the Ultimate Quotes Hack for vB3. However, it will not be a mere port. I have a Sh!tload of new features and functionalities planned for the vB3 version.

I first have a few other hacks to finish before I can work on the Ultimate Quotes Hack for vB3, but rest assured that it will be ever so much nicer than the vB2 version.
And, of course, you won't lose any of your quotes (not if you're using Lesane's Random Quote Hack thing, either).

Back when I first upgraded, I made sure I didn't drop the quotes table in my db just in case it would still be serviceable in the event the hack was re-released. Glad I didn't. :)

It should be an easy port. The code I use to call the quotes from the db is exactly what I used for the vB2 version of this hack.

like I said, I'm not doing a mere port. I'm doing a complete rewrite of the UQH, it's gonna be completely overhauled. It'll be a change similar to vB2 -> vB3. :)

How much more can you really add to this great hack? The only thing I can think of is maybe allowing to search for a quote using the quoteid or allowing to edit the quoteid (to fill in the gaps of quotes that you erase or get rid of). And maybe allow to sort the quotes by letter, id, name or quote (like in myphpadmin). Since I don't allow members to add or list quotes, there's not much more I need. ;)

I was just popping in to request this, and I'm really happy to see you're porting this.. I had been running it since the day you released it for vB2, and since my update to v3 we've missed it tremendously! I'd gladly make a donation if it'll help speed things up, but either way we're extremely pleased you're updating it! It was always layed out perfectly, and nice and clean.. Can't wait!

If you're in a really dire need, I can help you (and Boofo, alongside ^_^) get some parts of the Quotes hack to work again. But right now I'm really trying to just get the Hack Tracking Log released, cos it's become more and more urgent...

I'll do my best to speed things up though! :)

I cant stand the wait how much longer? I really want to get this system up and if its going to be a bit ill just make my own.

I'm assuming all of you have managed to add the Random query at forumhome / all pages on your own ?

If not, it's real easy. It's pretty much the exact same code as the vB2 version, for getting the random quote.

But what about an eta?

on the completely new Ultimate Quote Hack for vB3 that is being written from scratch? Can't really say, I'm guessing it'll take about a month worth of production time, but I don't know when I can really start on it...

I really wish this updated one would be worked on, but Kurafire has vanished. :(

Even the other quote database author has vanished, someone must want to take on a new quotation hack!
