Ignore thread option...

This would be a nice feature to add into the "Thread Tools" option... I've got users asking about this feature to help clean up their board experience...

pigsy 01-13-2004 08:02 AM

I'll second that.. had it requested to me about 5 mins ago!

Taco John 01-13-2004 11:36 PM

I get this request on a daily basis...

Taco John 01-15-2004 08:23 PM

Bump

Taco John 01-16-2004 11:35 PM

Surely I'm not the only one who is getting a request for something like this... I get it on a daily basis...

Sounds like a very cool feature for users, so maybe that's why I've spent the last 4 hours deving it. Tired now though and I have to create the install file, but the hack works fine for me after testing it over and over on vb3 Release Candidate 1.0. You can view the screenshots for now, have it as a teaser I guess :p

error_ignored.gif shows the standard error for users trying to view a thread which they had ignored.

ignored_view.gif shows the forumdisplay of a forum with two threads one which they have ignored so it only shows the one that they don't have ignored.

modify_ignored.gif is the usercp options panel where they modify their ignored threads so that they can un-ignore them if they like.

regular_view.gif is the forumdisplay of the two threads where both threads are visible because the user has neither ignored.

showthread.gif is the screenshot of a thread with the dropdown list option of ignoring the thread on the thread tools menu

usercp_active.gif is the standard usercp view which shows the ignored threads if they have any, if not it won't display the main panel. The side panel option always appears though.

A fair amount of things were needed to done in order to install this hack, thats why I'm still working on the main installer to make it easy as possible.

Cheers,
g-force2k2

Any word on this release?

Whatever happened to this? Why do people accept mod requests only to bail right before the finish line? This is the third mod request in a row that someone bailed on me after accepting the request...

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's not like people here must do this.
It's probably due to lack of time, many of us here experience this, so it's understandable.

Let's jsut appreciate the fact that hackers here actually are willing to take time out of their lives to help the rest of us with the hacks they release.

Taco John 04-15-2004 07:24 AM

I know... I'm just irratible because I just finished taxes...

But geez... This request was made in January... I would rather someone not commit to a hack, than commit to it... Show us how cool it is... and then disappear ane tie up the idea for everybody in the community. Having this hack would save me a lot of headache, as it allows users to self moderate.

I know that people aren't absolutely obligated to do these hacks. I'm just asking for a little common courtesy to the rest of the community when an idea is tied up. A friendly "I've been busy and haven't been able to do it" would have satisfied me.

I'm a brand new vB3 customer and would very much like to offer this hack to our users when we go live. I notice g-force2k2 hasn't posted on this board in some time; if someone could be persuaded to take over where he left off, I would be grateful indeed.

zetetic 04-16-2004 09:48 PM

Yes, this would definitely be a cool thing to have.

Anyone?

Taco John 04-17-2004 10:07 AM

Please... :D

Taco John 04-25-2004 01:15 AM

Apparently this one is DOA...

I'm getting the feeling learning php is going to be quicker than getting a mod request filled here. If I'm right, I'll share what I make with you. ;)

Taco John 05-07-2004 07:49 AM

This one would sure be useful...
