Some additional questions again, heh.

1. Is there any way to get additional emergency help if something *really* goes wrong? Price is irrelevant.

2. If have a valid license, is it allowed to run 2 boards on the same machine, like one public regular forum, and a testing forum for testing and developing styles etc.?

3. Is it possible to give usergroups custom avatars beyond their normal avatar? (like a moderator sign)

4. Is it possible to make usergroups where the leader of the group can add and delete their own members and each member gets special rights in forum?

5. Is there a tool that can display permissions a little better than vBB?, its a wee bit messy if you have *alot* of usergroups and forums.

1. yes phone support, check at vbulletin.com

2. yes read the license agrement

3. no, but you can give them a rank image

4. yes thats by default when you assigne a usergroup leaer. but they cannot add users they can however delete users.

5. i dont think so >.<

Lord Chaos 01-10-2004 08:20 PM

2. I was just unsure of that, thanks

3. Rank Image?, So lets say you have Group A with a certain image, would it be possible to make it so that any member gets this "rank image" automatically?

4. uh-oh, this is bad...you mean there's no way to add members without someone who has access to the admin cp?...if not is there a hack for this...This is very important.

5. Darn, the current display method is very bulky if you have a very large number of forums.

Zachery 01-10-2004 08:22 PM

4. for the usergroup thing that is ONLY vB3, im sure someone can hack it into it.

3. i THINK rank image is in vB2 but im not usre., yes as they post more or get more reputation or somthing else they can move up in rank or down i belive (ive never fully looked into the system)

5. im aware but its not so bad if your used to it >.<

3. I need custom ranks that can be applied to groups, not popularity and post counts...here are some examples.

I make a group called "Day of Defeat Moderators", Leader is Poster X who is the administrator of that subforum, he adds people to that group and they should then be able to upon joining to automatically get an icon that says "Day of Defeat Moderator". Repeat this for about 100 User groups....as these groups change almost daily, it would be too much hazzle for the admins to have to manually add people to the groups instead of the leader.

5. I could imagine it would be a pain with some 300-500 forums, it would scroll 50-100 pages at least of permissions and it would propably be very easy to overlook mistake...it would be much easier if permissions were shown as a table or something.

3. users can request to join, but cannot be directly added. and for the ranks can be applied to groups with a small trick ;D just make it set to 1 post and they will get it asap

Lord Chaos 01-10-2004 09:03 PM

Is this something that will be added or hacked?, because its rather important...we would get users applying for various groups all the time.

by default users can request. i do thnk that ugl's should be able to add a user. but thats me.

atm it would be a hack, in the future might be a feature

Lord Chaos 01-10-2004 09:44 PM

Ok, currently we use this feature (leaders add users) on our test phpBB forum, and it works very well and frees up alot of work.

Hopefully this feature will be extended soon.

you can give them very LIMITED admincp access

Lord Chaos 01-11-2004 12:34 AM

You can give the access to only add members to their own group?

Unfortunately, no, which is extremely unnerving for managing forum permissions that encompass multiple usergroups with similar posting rights. I have a sneaking suspicion, though, that there will soon be a vastly improved system in place for vB3, or at least, a Select/Deselect All link. Down Arrow/Right Arrow, Down Arrow/Right-Arrow is tedious.

Lord Chaos 01-11-2004 01:22 AM

This is exactly my point, our forum will have a *very* complex system of usergroups, forums and access rights and not only that, people will have to be added or removed on a daily basis AND rights changed from time to time...so a bulky system with poor overview possibilities opens up a whole mess of problems from someone setting *something* wrong somewhere....as you can propably imagine daily management of at the very least 100+ usergroups is an accident waiting to happen.
