A nice feature of vBadvanced Homepage is that it is optimized and designed for large web sites. vBadvanced Homepage performs only 5 queries with all the options turned off. Some options will cause the script to perform extra queries, but even with all the options turned on it still performs only 17 queries at max.

Here is a list of each extra function that will cause extra queries:
  • News - 1 query
  • Latest Threads - 1 query
  • Poll - 1 query (2 if the user has voted)
  • User's Avatar - 1 query
  • Buddy List and/or Online Users - 1 query
  • Mini Calendar - 3 queries (none for the simple calendar)
  • Stats - 2 queries
  • New Posts - 1 query

Thanks!

Zachery 01-06-2004 09:16 PM

Hey Tigga i left you a message on the other board about CSS as files, unless

Tigga 01-06-2004 09:22 PM

You sure about that Zak? Go ahead and test it out. ;)

Zachery 01-06-2004 09:24 PM

with RC2 ;D i hadda bug a dev to help me fix id :D but ill test it out in a moment

Zachery 01-06-2004 09:34 PM

well it seems to be working >.< i wonder why i had to make another file change to get mine to work >.<

hehe now i see how you got it to work :D

i was originaly thinking this, however its only a fix for the hack, not for the entire board ;D

Tigga 01-06-2004 09:37 PM

Probably because the new version uses a string replace function to replace paths in a few different places. ;)

And to be honest, I didn't even know that there was an issue with the CSS files... It just happens I was using the string replace for something else, and it also affects the stylesheets. ;)

Zachery 01-06-2004 09:40 PM

right, in RC2 they got rid of abpath and mess with some other things in the ACP, and i thought about doing a replace but id rather fix it for everything else im doing, so its a file edit in my up comming version of vBXirc :)

NuclioN 01-06-2004 09:53 PM

This is simply one of the best vb portals ever! :) see it in black on www.cyberty.nl

Zachery 01-06-2004 09:55 PM

mine will be up later tonight :)

[high]* Faranth still has mYvBindex for vB3 templates [/high]

lol

Tigga 01-06-2004 10:06 PM

Nuclion - Very nice site. :D

Faranth - Oh God... Burn them... Or at least try to. :p

Zachery 01-06-2004 10:08 PM

did i mention somehwere im borrowing your installer for vBXirc? (i think i emailed you about it) you never said anything back ( an older version, not the RCX one)

Dark_Wizard 01-06-2004 10:08 PM

Very nice...one quick question...why don't you add as a comment how many queries each setting would add. Also how about making it so more custom blocks can be added.

Great job!

Zachery 01-06-2004 10:10 PM

if im not mistaken

Dark_Wizard 01-06-2004 10:21 PM

I saw that in the instructions but was wondering wouldn't it go better in the vbAdvanced admin piece with each setting?

Zachery 01-06-2004 10:25 PM

ill poke him abit and see if he will be willing to add it to future versions :)

Dark_Wizard 01-06-2004 10:33 PM

Poking around adv_index.php I found an error....I PMed him asking him about something else and will let him know the error I found when he replies...

Edit...found more errors....

Xanthine 01-06-2004 11:10 PM

I keep on getting:
Parse error: parse error in /home/blackassassins.org/public_html/adv_index.php on line 15

I dont know why, the installation went smooth but it just wont let me open the web page up.

Thats one of the errors I found...

Attachment removed at Tigga's request.

I thought about adding the number of queries that each option will generate, but ended up deciding just to list them in the readme & here in the post. I may add that to future versions though.
As far as adding more custom templates, there's really not much of a point... The code from the custom templates can easily be copied and added into the index template. If someone really needed options to turn them on/off, then the settings could be added, and a conditional thrown around the code in the index template. The only reason the 2 custom templates are still there now is for people that have one or two blocks where the content might change often. The info being in seperate templates obviously makes it a little easier to find and modify the content quickly. ;)

Xanthine - The error you are getting is probably caused by entering the path to your forums incorrectly. Can you post the entire chdir line here?

Xanthine 01-06-2004 11:36 PM

Yep working fine now, thanks a million Dark Wizard.

You have to add it to your admincp/index.php...check the readme.html file

Xanthine 01-06-2004 11:47 PM

Nevermind I just didnt see they were on the bottom of all the vBulletin options

Add what? There aren't any modifications to that file... To change the options and such you go to your Admin CP => vBulletin Options => vBadvanced Homepage Settings (should be the last set). The templates are with the rest of the vBulletin templates, listed under Index. ;)

I threw that off the cuff...anyway the fixed version of your adv_index.php file is attached above...the one in the zip has errors

Tigga 01-06-2004 11:58 PM

Like what exactly? I tried taking a look at your file, but the spacing is all screwed up and it's next to impossible to use a compare program to see the differences.
I would also appreciate it if you would remove that attachment from your post as you're not allowed to re-post something like that.

ForKmaN 01-06-2004 11:59 PM

I get this when I try to go to theindex file for it!

Everything installed fine

Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home/gbadmin/public_html/adv_index.php on line 13

Warning: main(./global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/gbadmin/public_html/adv_index.php on line 74

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/gbadmin/public_html/adv_index.php on line 74

Tigga 01-07-2004 12:04 AM

What did you enter in the chdir line in your adv_index.php file?

ForKmaN 01-07-2004 12:07 AM

Never mind, Fixed it. there was a stupid . in front of it.

ForKmaN 01-07-2004 12:19 AM

ok another problem. The Calander seems to be wider then everything else, making it look all uneaven and crap. How do I fix this?

I've attatched a screeny of what I mean.

Tigga 01-07-2004 12:26 AM

Did you make the changes to your functions_calendar.php file and the calendar templates as instructed in the readme file?

As I recall, in the Mini Calendar section of the index template, changing the cellpadding for the table from a 4 to a 2 resolved the problem in the earlier release.

SnowBot 01-07-2004 05:49 AM

GREAT hack, i have one problem, the letters for the days of the week on the calender are not showing, any ideas why?

that dont make much sence :p

where exactly?

ForKmaN 01-07-2004 07:44 AM

Also, I was just thinking, when I was reading the instructions, it sais in there:

Quote:

If you plan to use the mini-calendar option, you should make the following change to your includes/functions_calendar.php:
Find:
Code:

function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '')
{
    global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar;

Replace it with:
Code:

function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '', $dontshowweek = '0')
{
    global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $vboptions;

But I cant actuly find that exact wording. I did find:

Code:

function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '')
{
        global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $show, $offset, $colspan, $days, $months, $show;

Is it the same thing? Just maybe instruction from an older version or somthing? It kinda confused me :p
