What do you do when....
When your old hoster has not answered his e-mails that you have been sending constantly for two weeks.... and not answering the phone or the messages that you leave for him either? Even on the hosting forums he will not reply. Its frustrating casue all I wanna do is have my old host provider move my forum to the new site!
Dont think you can do much but wait really :s
Yes but..... for how long? :(
Why dont you move it yourself?
Well I kind of did have it moved.... just the database and all my files. But I need my old hoster to update the dns route or something like that so I am not depended on my old host anymore. See my forum is http://www.sims2forums.com but it got moved to http://sims2.shelltopia.com/ a few days ago.... if you go to the old address you get a message saying where the new one is. But the old one is still using its dns route and I need my old hoster to update it.
Actually, you would update the DNS through your domain registrar. Once you ditch your old hoster, they shouldn't have to do anything.
Thats true Luke, cant see how you didnt know that MadCat :)
yup you actually don't need your host for it at all unless he owns your domain name and then even then he don't actually have to even hand it over to you :-S
my old hoster bought my domain name (www.sims2forums.com) for me and I dunno what I need to do to switch the stuff over really
do a whois to find out if he's the owner of it's you, if it's him he don't owe you the domain name and so you may end up having to buy it off of him.
where and how do I do a whois?
Also I dont think I'd need to buy it off him.... we're good pals.... but still I wonder where he's been all this time  (insanctus) |

Someone offered to pay for my site hosting, my domain, and my vbulletin license, i accepted but said that i would buy the domain. Reason is, the license and hosting can be replaced, but the domain can't, if he gets mad, or dies, or loses control of it, i would loose it too and it would be very hard to get it back. So i will never let someone buy a domain for me, because i can not guarantee that i will be able to keep it. They could simply change the domain name DNS, and my site would be gone with no warner, no nothing. |
I would quit stalking the guy and come up with a plan of action until (or if) he responds. By letting him buy and pay for the domain, you really have no rights to it, and it's not fair to make him look like he skipped out on you when he is under no obligation to respond to the barrage of emails and phone calls.
Find a domain name you like. Register it, and then start working on getting your site optimitized for search engines. Then, you won't really NEED the old domain name any more. |
Also, right now you still have control over the old hosting, you might not in the future, so if this does crap out on you, which it might not, redirect the domain name to your new domain, do what Amy said and get it SEO'ed and mass email all your current users to your new forum.
