How to hide certain forums from appearing from "view new posts" function?

Does anyone know of a way to make it so specific forums do not appear in the list when users use the 'view new posts' function?

For which vB version? A quick to do it in vB3 is to open search.php and replace line 2036 with:
Replace x with the forumid.

Might want to tell what the line contains because some people modified their search.php :)

I had to copy that from another screen and I couldn't remember the entire line so the line number had to do. If someone can post the entire line for me then i'll add that to my post.

I excluded my off topic and banter forum from being searchable (and thus also showing in new posts), and set up a public group called OT&B Fans that people could join which would allow you to search the forum/view it in new posts if you wanted to.

Seemed like a decent compromise.

mini2, could you please help out a new VB'er. This is exactly what I want to do with my forums but don't know what/where to change things! cheers..

This was on vBulletin 3, so if you're on vBulletin 2 I cant help, if you're on three, let me know and I'll post a brief "how to", it's very easy.

Thanks for the feed back everyone! I'm running 2.2.9. i would like it so people can still use the search functions, just have it hidden from the "View New Posts" feature. If there's no way around it, then I guess I'll just have to make it so people cant search it.

For vB2.x look in the search.php file for:

$action=="getnew"

scroll down about 19 lines and you'll see two lines that start with:

$wheresql.=

Below those two lines add:

$wheresql.=" AND thread.forumid<>##";

replace ## with the forumid of the forum you don't want to include in view new posts. You can put multiple forums multiple forums in there by adding another AND thread.forumid<>## inside the quotes. You can find the forum ID by going to that forum and looking in the url. You can also do the same thing in the "View Today's Active Threads" for users not logged in by searching for:

$action=="getdaily"

in the same file and making the same changes.
