size limit for sig's

i would like to see a size limit for image sig's in the admincp
just like the one for vb2
cause members just get carried away with them
and i am tired of asking them to change the size

monstergamer 01-12-2004 02:16 AM

i hope some one could make this
need it really bad :(

Andreas 01-12-2004 04:24 AM

I made such a hack.

Features (both configurable via AdminCP):
- Allows to limit signature to be max x lines
- Allows to limit signature to be max [ size = y], where 1 <= y <= 8

You can see it working @ http://www.planetliebe.de/vbb

The path is / v b b without the spaces, don't know why the board keeps on chaning that. Set limites are 4 lines, size 2.

If interested I can make this hack public..

is it in pixels that you set the image size too

and if it is you own code you can release it here, but if it is not you have to ask the person who made it

Andreas 01-12-2004 04:29 PM

Hmm, didn't notice that you were talking about images - lol.
This hack (which is my own one) is only for limiting text, sorry.

Limiting [ IMG ] in signatures for specific pixel sizes sounds a bit difficult, as the file could be changed after the check?

monstergamer 01-12-2004 04:44 PM

it has been done for VB2 https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=45310
and i really need some thing like it

Andreas 01-12-2004 05:01 PM

Ah, that's a completely different hack then what I was thinking about.

could you do some thing like it?

I want to see this ported aswell! My users find it fun to have massive sig pics, it's a pain editing them.

skinny 04-13-2004 09:37 PM

i agree. its now becoming a problem on my forums. some images in sigs are taking up nearly a quarter of the page! ridiculous.

Kwikms 08-06-2004 08:03 AM

I am also interested in this hack.

KirbyDE - could you release it? Maybe you have done this already and I just didn't find it?

Would be great :)

@ralphuk100 - I got no Idea what you are trying to tell me (or us)...

I was saying that I also have problems with people linking in massive sig pics.

oldfan 08-19-2004 01:34 PM

has this been released yet?

ChessMess 08-19-2004 04:08 PM

This would be of benefit for so many people... I wish it was standard vb functionality.

Virulent1 08-19-2004 06:16 PM

Shouldn't be that hard seeing how you can build off the Avatar code...

cyclical 08-19-2004 09:47 PM

yup....... We had to make a seperate usergroup earlier because some members kept putting in HUGE images, and we would edit, and they would wait a little bit, and put in another huge image etc etc etc..

definately could use something that resizes the images they use the "img" tags on, and only limit it to 1 picture.

I third that!

I am so sick of 400kb images - even if the size (in pixels) is pretty small. Members in my forum LOVE those stupid animated gifs that look like a movie. They are anywhere from 150 kb to 1 mb in size!

This thread has some good ideas for features to include in a hack: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=61239
