What do you think of vB3 Gamma?

Thought I would post a poll out of curiousity on what everyone thinks of the new "Gamma" (and future) releases of vBulletin3.

Personally, I think it looks outstanding and I can't wait to move to it. I've been hanging at vb2.2.7 due to hacks and not wanting to do a full upgrade but it is time..

Graphics and features look great.. Backend of 3.0 also (though I haven't seen Gamma yet) appears to be feature rich and much nicer than 2x.

filburt1 12-05-2003 12:26 AM

As I said in the other thread (mostly), the color scheme is more attractive than purple, but it is reminiscent of IBP and phpBB with the gradients and whatnot.

Also, it is inexcusable how Javascript is so heavily reliant on the functionality of vB as a whole. Client-side scripting should absolutely never be used for critical functions of a primarily server-side-based application.

But the actual code is far cleaner.

FlyBoy73 12-05-2003 12:37 AM

So we won't see it on Web Design Forums any time soon? :)

hagi 12-05-2003 12:52 AM

Gamma is out at vbulletin.com forums. Wont be able to download yet for a few hours.

So far I like it. About the java menus, I agree with Filburt, what about users without java?

I will probably remake all those links into a sidebar nav table.

Velocd 12-05-2003 01:27 AM

Drop down menus can be down in pure CSS as well. I've seen several articles about it at the Sitepoint forums. I wondered if they pondered that.

Of course, flaws in compatibility with CSS in browsers is often more delineative than Javascript.

I really can't imagine what users don't have Javascript enabled.

SmEdD 12-05-2003 01:43 AM

Well knowing some users, they won't have jscript cause good old bill wanted to dominate the market and took it oue of xp home, donno about pro

Erwin 12-05-2003 02:03 AM

I love it. :) It's going to be a BIG headache upgrading vB.org... plus my own forums... UUUGGGHHH...

RandyP3 12-05-2003 02:15 AM

Its cool, cept I take like 3 seconds to click on the Debugging thingey. That's annoying; but i should be fixing my own computer soon :p

Erm, there's a bit of a difference between Java and JavaScript ^-^ JS is built into most browsers, Java requires the runtime from Sun.

Yeah, I agree with Filburt that the JS flashy graphic stuff is evol, especially considering how much of a pain in the ass it'd be to make it work on every single freaking browser ^_^

Anywho, JS makes me feel bloated, but vB is still fast, so I'm good.

I just want to know what other changes there are besides a style change.

Gio Takahashi 12-05-2003 02:48 AM

I think its great, but its going to be a HUGE upgrade to redo the entire style on my forums....Well theres something I can do for friday >.>.

MaDCaT75 12-05-2003 04:11 AM

I wont upgrade until there are some decent styles to buy.

noppid 12-05-2003 05:20 AM

I got the upgrade bug going from 2.3.3 to Gamma. We'll have to wait to play. But to use it at vbulletin.com I like it.

assassingod 12-05-2003 06:10 AM

I'll defintly upgrade, but i'll be changing some of the search templates.

It's a nice change:)

I've publicly said for months that WDF won't upgrade until at least 3.0.2.

MindTrix 12-05-2003 02:38 PM

Its so annoying :p Looks ok but i dont want to move too vB3 until hacks are released because i enjoy them so much :p

Damn, more waiting

Charlie Argueta 12-05-2003 04:19 PM

Well, I'm still not sure, were are installing so later I will tell you what I think.

See Ya

FlyBoy73 12-05-2003 04:38 PM

Sorry Filburt1, I must have missed all your public announcements.. :p

Prince 12-10-2003 02:47 AM

I will be sticking with my hacked vB 2.2.9 for quite awhile.

vb gamma is quite a good version of vbull

i was`nt sure about the other releases but this one takes it one step further and is a big improvement. Most of the hacks will be available when RC1 is out so bide your time and then hack your board once again.
Im not to keen on how things have changed in regards to the templates and admin CP
their is far to much to learn again but then again i suppose the new features are for the best and having quick reply and the Karma hack already incorporated into it is just another big bonus.

VBgamma is deffo the way forward :)

catocom2 12-13-2003 06:24 PM

I like it except for the quick reply functionality, and the menu system.
I'll be hacking back in some, or all of the buttons as an option, and add the
custom smilies back to the quick reply. All this after rc1. I'm not upgrading
until then. (I didn't think)

catocom2 12-20-2003 01:33 PM

Well I did decide to go ahead with the Gamma version, after I saw how
easy it was to modify the styles.
It is way cool.

SirDrahcir 12-20-2003 07:20 PM

I started getting excited when I saw Beta 5, but I didn't install until Gamma and I'm really impressed

Zachery 12-20-2003 07:32 PM

whats wrong with quick reply. it is one of the most added features in vBulletin 2.x serries
