site for helping you get your vb2 boards spidered

<a href="http://www.boardflyer.com" target="_blank">www.boardflyer.com</a>

I've created a simple site which spiders boards, creates short (flat like) urls for search engines to understand, and thus producing your posts in Google for example.

I just launched it a couple of days ago. Still in testing, I submitted it to a few search engines, now I have to wait for them to come and see what happens. I think it will be spidered successfully. Its somewhat similar to the vb3 archive thing.

I'd love to hear what anyone has to say about this. Still in testing, dont know if it will be successful or not. For people with vb3, they have no use for my site I guess. Only supports vb2 now, once I am happy with what is indexed on Google and others, I will add support for other boards.

Are there any cons and pros?

Ive never really fully understood the point of google spiders or understood what they are

Getting your board spidered will allow you to get some targetted traffic to your site through google. All your thread topics can get indexed, with more threads, and more users the higher your site will be shown as useful thus bringing more users to your site.

Ahaz so its a good thing. Is there another way of doing this aswell as adding it to this guys site?

there are standalone hacks for vb2 which allow you to do this. like i said, vb3 has this built in.

This was brought up at vB...wouldn't you be getting all the hits to your site? Also the link you provided on the page that would be spidered contains sessionhash therefore that won't be spidered. Either way you get all the traffic.

Also did you get permission to put content from WHT, I do not think they "invested" their thousand of content in your site so YOU can get some hits that will somehow divert the traffic their way ;)

wht doesnt own people's thoughts and opinions. no message board does. sorry, but we live in a business world. its that one idea. what i am doing is not illegal. also, just so you know, no posts are stored on my server, they're fetched transparently in real time, that with providing links to original threads, is legit.

Not sure about that. If you don't get permission, I believe you are breaching copyright of the sites you are copying text from. But that's up to you. :)

Erwin is a lawyer :D

Erwin knows everything :p Its pointless arguing with him about things, you'll never win

dismissing morality for business is never a good idea, you gotta find a way to make everyone happy, asking permission aint hard :)

There have been a few cases already. US Courts have not allowed even the FRAMING of external sites eg. with news sites, so I doubt the wholesale copying of text would be allowed. But do speak to your solicitor if you want more information.
