Notify of new hack?

I guess this is more of a request. Would there be a possibility of beeing notified by email when a new hack is posted? Maybe have a option in the user cp saying something along the lines of "Notify via email of new hacks"

So when someone posts a NEW THREAD not reply, in the full release forum an email is sent out to everyone maybe titled "New hack at vB.org".

Or if not having the link in the user cp, maybe a button in the forum entitled something like "Notify Me Of New Hacks"

Im guessing all this would be a big no no though because of the amount of emails you would end up sending??

Thanks for your time/responses/thoughts :)

MindTrix 11-08-2003 01:42 PM

OMG someone agrees with me for once **faints**

MindTrix 11-09-2003 12:15 PM

**wonders why no admins have responded yet :)**

Xenon 11-09-2003 12:27 PM

hmm, we'll think about it :)

personally i don't like to add another emailsending hack to vb.org as we're sending out a lot of mails already.

but we'll see what we'll do :)

MindTrix 11-09-2003 12:39 PM

Yeah i thought that could be a problem, Maybe you guys could figure a way around it.

Logikos 11-09-2003 03:28 PM

Thats a great idea! i would love to see that

sabret00the 11-09-2003 04:12 PM

Xenon 11-09-2003 06:16 PM

Gio Takahashi 11-10-2003 12:27 AM

I'd love to see that too, MT. I always rely on the front page whenever there is a new hack out.

Thats a great idea, how come Admin never thought of that one :P

filburt1 11-10-2003 12:38 AM

But doesn't that mail you for EVERY post in the forum?

Hobbes 11-10-2003 03:39 AM

...this sounds like a splendid idea, would be excellent IMO

and yea doesnt subscribe email every POST? :p

Erwin 11-10-2003 06:29 AM

Mmm... it's a modification of forum subscription, to email out only NEW THREADS, and not replies to threads, in the Hack Forum.

Not that difficult. :) I'd wait till RC comes out... no point mucking around with the code now. Stefan is free to do it if he has time, otherwise I'm happy to.

Xenon 11-10-2003 03:33 PM

you can do it, as i have a lot of other more important codings to do right now

stress

I think a weekly update would be best if anything. Almost like a bulletin of released hacks from that week for those who want it.

Ohhhh thats much better idea (kinda :p)

Like a vB.org weekly newletter? Could have a section on the letter about New hacks released, Section about Hack updates or fixes? And a section for Beta hacks?

Of course on the updates/fixes part, there should be a section made on the board that people who have made a hack can go and post about an update of fix etc. This way the admins dont have too search everywhere

Overall if set out nicely etc etc i think it could be pretty nice. Nice suggestion Mist

Xenon 11-11-2003 03:40 PM

good idea mist, now start and code it ;)

MindTrix 11-11-2003 03:50 PM

I think really Xenon doesnt have important coding too do, hes just struggling to keep his post count way ahead of everyone else :p

Anyways, Go on Mist, you know you want too ;)

Dan 11-11-2003 03:52 PM

We know you can do it Dean!

you just don't see which things i code, as most of them are not visible in public

(also some are for university, so i won't tell you ^^)

and i have to view most of the threads on vb.org, as it's my job ^^
don't post and i won't answer anymore :p

MindTrix 11-11-2003 04:31 PM

Lol true Xenon, but we appreciate your help and hacks ;)

(didnt mean no offence by the previous hack)

Xenon 11-11-2003 04:37 PM

i wasn't offended :)

You'll see some hacks by me, once vb3 hacks are allowed ;)
[high]* Xenon is starting a new install file to write ;)[/high]

MindTrix 11-11-2003 04:40 PM
