VbIndex, vbHomeLite, or vbPortal...what are the differences??
 

I've looked at all 3, and they look very similar.

Can someone explain the major differences??

Either go with vBindex or vbHome (lite) unless you need all the features that vBportal has as it will put an increased load on your server.

Other than that the differences are pretty minior, however vBindex is the only one of the 3 with a version for vB3 released and supported.

can someone campare the amount of queries on both vbindex and vbhome(lite)???

and vbportal........is it that bad??? o_O

vBportal can use a rediculously high number of queries depending on the setup.

vBindex 3 (for vB3) uses a maximum of 11 queries currently, vBindex 2.1 and vbHome (lite) vary on what options are setup but are significanly less then the average vBportal installation.

hey ntldr......since u're the creator of vbindex........can i intergrate it with the articles hack and photopost??

I've never used the articles hack or photopost, but it shouldn't be hard to integrate them with vBindex 2.x or 3.x.

not to be a pain but can someone answer the question, i've seen so many of these threads pop up and the question is always avoided and it does my nut in :( :cry:

As far as the vB2 versions of vBindex and vbHome (lite) are concered the main difference is with the code (PHP) and the templates, they both have pretty much the same functions, like news, latest threads etc.

vbHome (lite) has two columns, vBindex has three;
vbHome (lite) has valid XHTML templates, vBindex doesn't;
vbHome (lite)'s source follows the same rules vB3 has, vBindex is layed out the way I find best;
vbHome (lite) requires the copyright is left in place, vBindex doesn't;
vbHome (lite) comes with a backend file for RSS IIRC, vBindex doesn't.

At the end of the day try them both and go for the one that best fits your need, they don't take long too install after all.

vBindex 3 is a significant improvement over 2.1 including many more options, fully XHTML 1.0 valid and is much more user friendly then the vB2 equivilents.

I've never used or really looked much at mYvBindex, however a majority of the code is ripped from other hacks released here without permission, like TECK's last 10 posts on forum home, or at least this was the case when it was first released which is why I refuse to recommend it to anyone.

Anyway to the real changes, again the templates have a different style between to two;
Current weather is built into mYvBindex, however is avalible as an addon for vBindex;
Calendar is built into mYvBindex, however is avalible as an addon for vBindex;
Top poster, newest member, and today's birthday's aren't shown on vBindex;
vBindex has a shoutbox builtin, its an addon for mYvBindex;
