Who owns and who started vBulletin.org?

Hey,

Who owns and started this site?

Erwin 09-28-2003 03:16 PM

Chen aka Firefly. :)

Xenon 09-28-2003 04:27 PM

http://www.checkdomain.com/cgi-bin/c...=vbulletin.org

jelsoft seems to be the owner now ;)

Also i think vb.org was founded by wayne luke long time ago (that's where the green style came from)
but the "official" vbulletin.org has been refounded then by Sinecure and chen

SmEdD 09-28-2003 09:18 PM

Is chen not like 16 that crazy bastard . . . lol

He even has his own E-Mail program which is crazy. A 16yr old making like 160US per licence when he live in Isreal.

My facts may be wrong so please correct me if they are.

filburt1 09-28-2003 09:32 PM

I thought Chen was around 20 years old or so like most (definitely not all) of the Jelsoft people.

I think his script is $130/license but he's not the only member of his team.

I don't know how old he is, but if someone is able create a site like vb.org (which IMO is the most powerful "feature" of vbulletin) gets my respect even if he is 6 years old. Let alone the email program which is definetely a highly complicated script and one of the best in its field..

TheDPQ 09-28-2003 10:33 PM

Well on yaxay's Staff page it says he was 16. That was put up about a year ago so I'd imagine he's probably around 17 by now.

Most of the hack's I've installed were Chens, I don't think I would be as interested in VB if it wasn't for him. He made AMAZING and easy to understand hacks for free.

:) Goes to show you what alot of time and dedication (and talent of course lol) can get you.

mr e 09-28-2003 11:02 PM

Chen's like 50ish, will be like 54/55 this November

Erwin 09-29-2003 01:56 AM

Xenon is actually a 70-year old monk living in a monastery in Lichtenstein.

SnowBot 09-29-2003 03:10 AM

Not Lichtenstein, Tibet. After twenty years or so of practice in the Himalayas, Xenon has mastered the art of controlling his brain stem - he can control his heart beat, blood pressure etc. After thirty years of practice he discovered he could connect to the internet purely by meditation, setting TCP stacks in his neurons etc. I'm chatting to Xenon now, he's sitting naked in an ice storm on his towel, his only possession. He's using ipv6.

<hugs bash.org ;)>

LOL!!! How many queries can his brain run?

Although I can testify that it is a very capable brain which can handle as many queries as you can stow, if you don't take my word, we can install microstats to get factual stats. :glasses:

sabret00the 09-29-2003 12:33 PM

i have to agree, it's an amazing feat, vb.org is without a doubt where vbulletin comes into it's own, it's the reason alot of ppl decide to fork out for a license, simply being the sheer amount of customisation available. my only real problem with chen is that he's no longer active on the boards which just sucks :(

SnowBot 09-29-2003 12:50 PM

cant get rid of him in IRC :P LOL ! ! only joking fella :)

N9ne 09-29-2003 03:44 PM

When it comes to programming and websites, age is just not a factor anymore :).

Zachery 09-29-2003 04:04 PM

no kidding

im 18 and i know nearly nothing about php :)

i know quite abit about html :) ive been working with html on and off since i was 12, and if i had started learning php a long time ago id probally be damn good by now :D

Xenon 09-29-2003 06:25 PM

hmm, nice rumours are going around about myself :)

but as long as noone mets me in RL, noone can say whats right and what's wrong ;)

Erwin 09-29-2003 10:10 PM

LOL!!! Microstats installed in Xenon's brain...

It would be:

Thought generated in 120.56705 seconds with 2 queries [Brain Loads: 99.57 ? 99.63 : 99.59]

PixelFx 09-30-2003 01:32 AM

;) wonders what type of owned licence we need for our own personal Xenon Brain? ;) And how much each query costs...

Tony G 09-30-2003 12:11 PM

Are younger people still taking over vB.org? :D

sabret00the 09-30-2003 03:24 PM

good question there, does vb.org need a license? and do vb team members such as tubedogg and chen need to buy licenses?

Remember my thread about kids taking over vBulletin.org? It got 80+ replies...because it's so true!

Indeed we're still taking over and we're taking vB3 by storm.

I started learning HTML when I was 13, now I'm more fluent in XHTML than I am in English; I started PHP when I just turned 15 and I'm nearly 16 and I'm ok at it :).

assassingod 09-30-2003 03:55 PM

I started HTML at 11, then JavaScript at 12/13 (Although I know nothing about it anymore)

I released my first hack when I was 13 and I built a time-machine when I was 8:)

OMG that is great. I can't stop laughing now.

vb.org has it's own license which was paid by chen.
also jelsoft members have to buy licenses for publict sites AFAIK.

I think they'll get them a bit cheaper, but not sure on that one.

So much misinformation here!

vbulletin.org was started by Mike Sullivan and Chris Lambert and used the plain green style you see on here now (something pretty close to it). Mike became a developer of vBulletin and the site stagnated at that point. Chris owned the domain and just recently transfrerred the ownership to Jelsoft, for the simple fact he was failing to renew the domain. The site has always been on Jelsoft's server(s).

Chen and Sinecure took the site over and put the current style on and added some things.

DrkFusion 10-02-2003 12:32 AM

Then presto, I signed up, made all our lives better, and took on the role of the almighty one and only :)

PixelFx 10-02-2003 01:01 AM

"And He saw the light" "and it was vb.org" "and he new it was good" ... or something to that nature :P

hmm, seems i was confused by the names, i thought it was wayne, and not mike... damn i get old ^^

but to be right, the site was down so chen and lyle didn't took them over in the normal way, it was more a restart i'd say :)

MindTrix 10-03-2003 01:44 PM

Horray for VB.org :p dunno bout everyone else but i can swear on my life this site IS the reason i brought a VB license. I used to come on here to see what hacks you had but i could never view due to no license **boooo** but blah temptation got the better of me and now i mess with mine everyday :p horrahh horrahh horrahh :p

sabret00the 10-03-2003 07:56 PM

so you mean vb.org and vbt have to buy licenses or does jelsoft give it em free considering they're official jelsoft/vB sister sites and if they are bought licenses who pays?

well, the licenses have been bought in the past.

i thinkt the renewal system is unlimited, but i cannot say that for sure.

Freddie Bingham 10-03-2003 11:19 PM

Well you can see from my first post that the first threads are the threads from the original forum.

Erwin 10-03-2003 11:46 PM

Freddie, when are you turning the big 3-0?

Freddie Bingham 10-04-2003 12:13 AM

Dec 8th

Erwin 10-04-2003 12:47 AM

Nov 11th for me. :)

It's strange to have the first digit on your odometer change... :)

Velocd 10-04-2003 12:50 AM

Quoted from a post in that thread Feddie linked:

Quote:

but seriously, is that vb2.0 final or vb2.x sort of thing? ie a couple of weeks away or a few months away?
Sounds like something people have been saying for some months now about vB3 RC. ;)

DrkFusion 10-04-2003 02:49 AM

Erwin your 29? I thought you were 60 :-|
