Can't (legally) drive yet, but I'm currently building a 1962 Chevy shortbed (big-window) pickup. Pics are embarrassing. :)

I'm also going to be driving a 1980 Chevy El Camino soon.

Dean C 08-11-2003 05:37 PM

That's one sweet car. How much did it cost you?

EvilLS1 08-11-2003 05:44 PM

Thanks! It was a dealer demo and had 5k miles on the clock when I got it. I paid $24k for it.

Anyone else have pics of their ride?

Are you guys being serious. SmedD you're only 17 and you have a ride like that? This is crazy...

SmEdD 08-11-2003 09:06 PM

My dad buys, sells and rebuilds classic and sport cars. I work at the body shop and when I got the car it had light front end damage to the fender and quarter panel, thats why I got it so cheap. Other wise I wouldn't of got it.

Nice lookin' rides fellas!

SVT, How does your Lightning run in the 1/4? I have a friend who owns an L that runs upper 12s with just a few boltons and sticky tires. Not too shabby for a full size truck!

N9ne 08-12-2003 12:03 AM

Wow a lot of you guys must be rolling in the money paying around $20,000 for cars at young ages.

I hope to pick up a BMW 3 series second hand or an Audi second hand for around ?10,000 (hopefully less) when I turn 18 :)

(As I'll start learning when I'm 17 but with all those damn exams we get here in England - I hope I get enough time - I should pass by the time I'm 18 ;))

Yeah really.. Must be nice! I was driving a beat up $500 1979 Station Wagon when I was 17. :D

N!ck 08-12-2003 12:10 AM

I guess nobody's into the classics anymore. :( My truck will probably go 100 carbureted though. (For all you "gear head" posers: Carburetion was the predecessor of fuel injection.) I'm also willing to bet that my truck will go at least five times faster per dollar spent and be worth about ten times more than I put into it once finished--and I bet none of you can say that! :p

SVTBlackLight01 08-12-2003 01:13 AM

EvilLS1,

The best it has done is 12.26 @ 110. I'm trying to decide what route to take to get it into the 11's. I'll probably put a 50 shot on it.

I haven't completely forgotten about the classics. I have one on the back burner.

Here is the beast that's goin' in it.

It's going to be my version of a AFX Comet (any of you "gearheads" know what one of those are? :ermm: )

MaDCaT75 08-12-2003 01:53 AM

Darn tootin

Serge 08-12-2003 01:59 AM

I have a 1991 Chevy Blazer with like 31,000 miles on it. I have added a new radio with new speakers and a couple of subs to boot. The car costed me $0.00 which is a great price considering what shape the car is in (mileage wise the body is in perfect shape as well though) :)

EvilLS1 08-12-2003 02:19 AM

Nice ET SVT! I'm mostly a GM guy but those new Lightnings and 03 Cobras kick ass!

Quote:

Maybe a good aftermarket torque converter? That did the trick for me. I added a Yank 3500 stall, ET streets, crank pulley, & minor weight reduction and it dropped my ET from 12.71 @ 107 to 11.99 @ 112. Now I'm trying to decide between a TNT 100 shot, ATI procharger, or heads & cam to reach upper 10s. I'm leaning toward the spray because it would be the cheapest route.

SVTBlackLight01 08-12-2003 03:27 AM

I have a few buddies that are GM guys, but we really don't talk cars that much. (probably coulda guessed that)

That's a pretty big drop. I got my greatest gain with a chip. About .5 sec. The rods in the Lightnings are pretty week so my options are starting to run out without going into the engine. I need to check around on the converters. Last time I looked they were over $1K. Kenne Bell just starting selling a replacement blower that's good up to close to 20#.

I am seriously wanting a new '03 or '04 Cobra, but I'm trying to be patient. There is supposed to be a completely new Cobra coming out in '06 that could be 500+ hp.

I know one thing.. If the 05 Stang looks as good as this I might have to change sides (again)!

SVTBlackLight01 08-12-2003 03:58 AM

Yeah. The first few pics I saw didn't impress me much, but the more I look at these, the more I like the way they look.

Have you seen the new Lightning concept?

Yeah I've seen that. Pretty cool. I still think the current Lightnings (like yours) look better though.

I'm with you on that. I don't really like the new Lightning.

Thanks, N!ck.

I have a '67 Dodge Monaco 500 (Bought it last year - and the seller was full of sh!t - told us "It'll be up and running in 2 hours" And we realized afterwards, that the idiot didn't even have the right radiator for the car -- if we would've gotten the thing running, as soon as we started it, the engine would over heat because the radiator is too small to handle a 383 engine. So its been sitting in front of our apartment for the last year and a half - because we can't afford a $350 radiator. We're in the process of selling it (well its up for sale). If anyone is interested in a project car, by all means make an offer ;)

We also have a '85 Chevy Caprice Classic, 305 small block, 4bbl carb, runs like a a dream (you couldn't tell it was a 18 year old engine in there, it purrs). Paid $1000 for it this year.

Can't afford new cars -- don't want one actually (my husband agrees).

AWS 08-15-2003 12:27 AM

2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71
1952 GMC Pickup. Candy apple red. Interior came out of '65 GTO and is rolled and tucked in white leather. 409cu/525 horse, Dyer blower, Hurst 4 speed. Runs high 9's. Had it since 1972 when I bought it off a farmer in Tennessee. I gutted the goat after a rollover in a street race and put the whole interior in the truck. Rool and tuck was done in Tiajuana, Mexico. Did all the engine work myself. Been working on this for 30 years and finally have it the way I like it.
1992 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. Lots of work done on the engine. Is one of the few 100 inchers on the street.

I drive a 97 Mustang Cobra, hence my username.

They haven't made 4 cyl stangs in over a decade. Only V6 and V8 models now. The one pictured above is a DOHC 281ci V8.
