Too many Guests!

Ok, im having a problem with my Who's Online page. It seems a "Guest" has 50 windows open and he's showing up 50 times on my Who's Online page. His IP ALWAYS starts with: 66.192.72 and this has been happening since last night. I know it's not a person, because this "Guest" is also doing moderator duties, editing posts (with guest posting off) and doing stuff in their User CP! Anyone help??

Its either a search bot (inktomi or googlebot) or you are getting DDoS'd.

Either way, its nothing major since the DDoS attack will stop (unless your server load gets to high, then you're in trouble ), and you can block search robots (Although you might be slightly insane if you do block them)

I've never seen any search robot do this before, even googlebot isn't that insane on looking through everything!

Getting DDoS?? Denial of Service I presume? damnit...

It doesn't matter if the bot is looking through restricted pages, because it'll get a nopermissions error.

And I guess its more likely a bot than a DDoS. Unless you have a few thousand guests online

yea, but how come this is the first time it's happened since the site started 6 months ago??

and how the hell is it doing what it is anyways? I mean, it knew the EXACT link to a members admin cp edit page

Maybe the bot just found your site now?

It scans the site for links, and eventually it'll linked to the pages its viewing.

That IP is Inktomi. I know it very well because it stayed on my site for a few weeks.

but least i know it a search bot now :P

It's the Inktomi spider. Nothing to worry about.
