[Heeeeelp]Looking for a good CMS

Hi all
I'm looking for a good CMS (integrated with vB, of course :) ) for my gaming portal.

I know about vPublish from teckwizards.com (will be a great product but i need now!), vContent (jelsoft must relase first vB 3.0.0 gold :) ) and Virtuanews but i'm looking for a CMS driven by templates (like vBHL for example, but improved)

Thanks!

www.miraserver.com great cms, my site is driven by it ( www.nerdnations.com ) and the comments are intergrated with VB

Only downside, expensive

vBportal is good I have used it for 3 yrs.

Is it a true cms I am not going to debate that.

It intergrate's well with VB and has a good support community.

I think you can download the pr8.1 free, but for the newer one
3.0 you have to be a paid up member, but its not that much.

I havent tryed the 3.0 myself as I am awaiting the final vb3.0 before I take the long task of updateing my site.

but vBportal has a ton of queries.... I'd suggest vBhome lite or myvBindex

I know alot, but not completly interegated with vB. They do use similar databasing etc. but thats not what you are looking for.

vBIndex or vBHome work well for interegated ones.

I dont know about querie's as with vbportal, vBIndex, vBHome but my site gets 9 thats with all the moudles loaded except for the news topics.

I dont know what vBIndex, vBHome do as I havent used them.

vBIndex is rather good, I think. I used it when I ran thesistersthree.com (which still uses, only now it's owned by the creator of vBindex!).

If you want to use a real CMS I suggest avoiding the stripped down PHP-Nuke (vBPortal). And give PostNuke a try, great CMS leaps and bounds ahead of PHP-Nuke.

vBportal is no CMS.
There is no good CMS at the moment believe me, I've tested, bought several of them, but I don't like no one. HTMLEdit 2.0 is a good addon, the best WYSIYG tool at the moment, still needs integration. I'm working on my own vB integrated CMS tool, will be commercial, the only thing I know so far.

Its useless to say whats a good CMS and what's not without first even stating what you folks are using it for.

FYI I am using vbHome for my front page news , vbLinks Directory v2 for my links section , vbArticles v0.3 ( doing this hack btw ) for my articles , reviews and interviews section , Photopost v3.3.1 for my gallery.
And vb for my community forums of course.

Now everything is integrated ( photopost uses the vb user database but still got to do some slight design to make it look totally blended with the rest of your site ).

So basically you get one whole complete site going - on vB.

Who needs any other CMS :)
I personally haved used Postnuke for my site and eventually decided against it because its way too bloated for my needs.

The reason your site gets only 9 queries is it looks like you are running the check at the top of your home page, it needs to be at the bottom, after all the modules etc have loaded.

I have a fairly standard install of vBPortal and the Front page is 39 queries as Admin, less as a normal member or guest.

I tried vBhome and vBindex and they are better than vBPortal for query use, I think they were around 17 for a front page.

vBPortal query useage obviously alters with the modules you have switched on.. for example..
Main Menu [1]
who's on line [3]
today'r events [1]
today's birthdays [1]
private message [3]
past articles [1]
Administration [6]
Message box [1]
Latest news [8]

Cinq - how can you blend PhotoPost and vB design, can you tell more about it?

mmm miraserver is really nice and i like nerdnations but in which way can i modify the grafic? It's all templated like vB?

Thanks

Asso 06-25-2003 07:29 PM

Because on my server is running the version 4.2 of vBHomeLite (great software!) but now i need an improved CMS to manage reviews, comments etc. etc. and i have not the time to wait vPublish (the CMS that Teck is writing) or the vContent of Jelsoft :(

I'm looking for a complete site like Miraserver, the price isn't a problem :)

That's wrong. vBPortal frequently uses at least 40, and sometimes over 100. You are running your query check at the beginning, when you need to run it as the last function.

Asso, feel free to email me if you have questions on Miraserver. I'm the developer of it. Or you can post a question to the forums over on miraserver.com.

I love the endless talk about the amount of queries vbportal uses. NO KIDDING! It has three times the modules (which don't all have to be activated) compared to the others. In other words, the MORE something does, the MORE queries it will run. You will notice those others (vbindex, etc.) don't do half of what vbportal does, thus requiring less queries.

PixelFx 06-27-2003 07:43 AM

mmm vbhome, I'm using photopost 4.0 and vbpanel (one my hacks), of coarse vbulletin for my site, and couldn't be happier :) I think the above is the best so far for making a custom cms type system :)

Asso 06-30-2003 03:24 PM

i've seen nePHP and, honestly, its' great. Unfortunately it's really expansive (499$!) for me :(
