for me remain the store integration and it's perfect ^_^

kaotic 06-09-2003 04:12 AM

Do you mean integrating lesane's store hack? That'd be sweet. :)

-Sidekick- 06-09-2003 04:18 AM

If I let my users create there own forums, I'd have over 100 forums. lol

Nj though.

legendarysk8er 06-09-2003 04:18 AM

I don't understand the point of this hack. It allows you to create forum without having to go to the admin cp? I guess it's cool, but i'd rather just log into the admin cp.

Yeah :p

007 06-09-2003 04:39 AM

You'd almost have to make it integrated into the Store or some points system or else you would have like 100 random "Bob's Shrine" forums and crap LOL! I can see it now. I install this and then a few hours later every member on my board thinks it will be cool to set up their own forum... It would have to cost a ton too to keep things under control. :)

Nice work though. Looks like some serious effort went into this hack. Very impressive :)

hypedave 06-09-2003 04:40 AM

Can forums be added through out the whole board? or can they be defined to one location?

And yes integrating this with some type of points system, like Lesane Store Hack or the Karma hack would be cool.

007 06-09-2003 04:49 AM

Or two seperate integrations... so everybody is happy. :)

Personally I'm a Lesane Store person..

Kevorkian 06-09-2003 05:06 AM

i have a lot of problem with karma hack the best way is lesane store hack i think ;)

MrNase 06-09-2003 07:24 AM

...and there are so much additions for the lesane store :)

really nice hack, iam already using vbhosting and so i can't install it but what you've done looks quite good :)

GoTTi 06-09-2003 08:37 AM

can you make this hack require a admin approval before it is completed?

also, instead of allowing members to select where the forum goes, there should be a default location category where the user forums will be created...

but the admin approval should be first on the list...some1 makes a forum, then it has to be ok'd before it is actually placed on the forum and opened.

Kevorkian 06-09-2003 08:55 AM

include a max forum section limit?

colicab-d 06-09-2003 02:20 PM

i guess with a bit of extra coding this could be used to rent out forums, or provide free forums , like one of those free forum services..

but i dunno if thats a vilation of vbs terms of use or not. youd need to check it out i guess

wolfe 06-09-2003 02:25 PM

i am currently working on the store integration :D where they buy one it its adds 1 to the user table and if they buy 2 theyere allowed to make 2 then they have to buy new ones :D

assassingod 06-09-2003 02:33 PM

Nice hack, but I would re-think the idea of letting users allow HTML in the forum description, otherwise unrealiable members may use malacious tags in the description.

Good work though;):)

wolfe 06-09-2003 02:34 PM

ok d00d will remove it off next release :D

but note you can trick your members by makeing Yes & No Mean yes :D lol

Dean C 06-09-2003 03:12 PM

Ok... one thing you've put in here is allowing users to create private forums? What is the point of that? ;)

This hack is open to a lot of dangers. Firstly the more forums you have the more abuse and the longer its going to take pages to load. Imagine you have about 100 active users and they all decided to make a forum. I would have thought that would have killed the bandwidth...

This is open to much abuse in my opinion. And a must for the next version has to be the moderation of applications... Even restricting the ability to apply for a forum by usergroup too...

wolfe 06-09-2003 03:24 PM

well d00d i have made it a store addon so it will cost member about 15000 SP's to buy a forum so not alot of people can afford that ;) anyway i am off to work will finish when i return l8r :D

N9ne 06-09-2003 03:45 PM

As good as this hack is, everyone should really take precaution, think of consequences, I mean in effect you're giving members powers that they definitely shouldn't have, the possibilty to create forums by themselves, that's one main thing that only admins can do...

gmarik 06-09-2003 03:47 PM

Sounds great. Have to test it out.

Kevorkian 06-09-2003 04:05 PM

this hack need a lot of option for prevent fools user ^^ it's a good thing don't give the permission of create a big amount of forum and insert a subforum limit, like 3-6, another implemention is a personalized header :p but this hack already exist

GoTTi 06-09-2003 05:59 PM

i dont have the store hack on my board. ;(

DrkFusion 06-09-2003 07:40 PM

Very nice, I did something very similar, with new fully coded administration for users, and a new system admin panel, and modified it alot ot make it seperate from your base forum, new template engine and all. Very hard work :-p

Congratz!

blackice912 06-10-2003 07:11 AM

IDEA: Can't make a forum until you hit a certain post count.

How could you go about doing this with the current version?

Holidazed 06-10-2003 02:43 PM

This is an awesome idea. However, it will need some work. As other have suggested, it needs a way to lock it down.

Might I suggest in the ACP you have every possible option that the ACP normally has for creating a forum with the ability to turn each piece off and set the default value. If it is turned off, then the user does not see the option and the value you select is set instead.

In addition, having all created forums drop into a ACP set category.

Also, instead of having the user put in a display order, have it automatically put in the next available number in that category and don't allow the user to change that (or make it an ACP option).

Obviously, an option to turn it off.

How about a checkbox option in the usergroup section to allow that group to create forums with the default value being "No". This way we can just allow a certain group the ability to do this.

Same suggestion as above, only on the Users prifiles in the ACP.

Maybe a search item under the Users|Find options that allows you to search for all users that have that option set to "Yes".

Instead of an option to let the user put themselves as moderator, maybe it should just set the moderator to the user that makes the forum.

Ooh! Ooh!! One more thing! How about a checkbox in the ACP to allow all moderators the ability to add a sub-forum under one they already moderate. If they moderate more than one, give them a choice as to where they want it.

I have too many users on my system and too many of them are children. This hack (although desired) scares the heck out of me.

Chris M 06-10-2003 03:26 PM

Nice, but:

Already said:
HTML in description = no no
Private forum = no no

My "no no"s:
Forum parent? - Why not make it so that they can only make this forum a child of an existing forum they have made, and that they can only make their main forum a child forum of a large forum called "User forums";)
Moderation Options - Why?
Style sets? - User's may not like their style set's being overridden;) Remove this, or at least make it an option in the Admin CP for Admins to decide to allow users that part or not;):)
Act as forum - They wont be making categories, so remove this;)
Is active - Of course it will be, so remove this;)
Open for new posts? - Duh...Remove this;)
Allow HTML code in posts? - NOOOOO
Allow IMG code in posts? - Again, you could make an option for Admins to decide if their users can do this or not
Smilies, BBCode and Icons should be removed and set as yes (via hidden fields)
Posts count - Of course they should;)

All those options are unnecessary and/or security risks...

Something you may like to add:

Afterburner's Password Hack - Allow users to add a password to the forum, but make it so that a new post is inserted into a Mod forum, with the password for that forum in it - This way members can make a "private" forum, but allow their friends in:)

I love this idea and can't wait for the store integration.

My members are not problematic at all and if they were they know it'd mean the boot. So I don't have alot of worries or concerns on adding this in, and if you make it cost enough, you can put in there, if you use problematic html code the forum will be removed with no refund to your points. :)

I guess I'm of the belief of if a member wants to cause problems, why are they still a member ;)

Chris M 06-10-2003 03:55 PM

No offense, but that rather niave attitude will change once someone betrays the trust you have in them;)

colicab-d 06-10-2003 04:23 PM

i think a hack like this would need a lot of thought i mean it could work if :

the forums was rented for x amount of days
there was a cots i.e store addition
a limit on the max number of forums at one time
restricted by usergroup
ran a watered down version*
admins can set global forum permissions (such as no html)
different levels of features depending on usergroup

other ideas :

id to show only that forum (special link)
optional renting thru paypal of forum for x amount of days
watered down admin panel for forum owners
can create subforums (x amount per forum)
subforum cost additional via paypal

*this could be set by usergroup etc i dunno

ust some ideas to think of, as at current its just ever so slightly
querie intensive depending on the number of forums
and then theres the seciurity risk also

blackice912 06-10-2003 08:39 PM

bah, my idea is still the best :p
