ok i dont take any credit for this as i only changed the content from jpilot to Pjirc chat all cridet goes to FleaBag as he created it first if you want you can see live Live Demo this is for people who dont want to pay for registeration its a open Source Pjirc Website everything is included in the file and explaned

I followed all of the directions, but going to chat.php results in a blank page :\

its my fault i zipped the wrong chat.php

ok where did you upload the files to i think thats what is wrong all the files should be in the same dir i mean your vBulletin Dir upload all the files including chat.php eg
if your forums are in http://www.yoursite.com/forums/
then thats where all the files will go
when you unzip file you have folder called PjIRC Chat Integration dont upload as it is but upload the files within to your forums dir.

All of the files were uploaded to the /forums directory as stated in the instructions. I tried uploading the new chat.php again, and now it seems to work. :)(which is strange, becuase it didnt work the first time with the new chat.php )

One more question if you dont mind...
When I access chat.php, it says:

I have this installed, yet am receiving this error:

Much like Vile above. Even when I visit his chat, I get the error. Even with the demo chat listed in the first post, I get this error.

My channel and the server works though, I'm in it at this moment with mIRC. Is there a bug in this applet? Or a java-conflicting issue?

has anyone made it so this works with a floating window? or would ya like me to add it? when I setup on my site?

Floating window? Are you referring to a pop-up?

I get an Unable to connect : cannot access "host" message each time I try to use PJIRC!

Security is disabled and the remote host is not the one from where you downloaded the applet.

I'm using Internet Explorer with the signed cab-file but I'm not prompted to accept the certificate and the connection cannot be performed.

Your're using the Sun Java Virtual Machine instead of the Microsoft one because you've installed
the java sun sdk. Go to the control panel, then "java plugin", then "browser", and unckeck
"Internet Explorer" checkbox.

How does the security system work?

It seems nobody understands a single thing about the security system and code
certification. If you read these lines, don't be afraid, you're not alone

The most important thing to understand is that an applet can't do anything without
your explicit consent. If an applet was able to read or write files from or to
your computer, to send them to any remote host, or any actions such as reading
personal informations from your computer, then the internet would be a very
dangerous place. Imagine a popup with such a java applet!

That's why an applet is only able to perform a very limited set of actions.
Something an applet *CAN'T* do is to contact any remote host. That means that
PJIRC *CAN'T* contact the irc server. Hopefully, there is an exception to this
rule : an applet can contact a remote host if and only if this remote host is
the web server from where the applet has been downloaded.

In other words, if the applet is downloaded from www.somehost.com/anydir/pjirc_files,
then pjirc will be able to contact www.somehost.com, on any port, but not any other
host.

To summarize, if you want pjirc to work correctly, you MUST install your irc server
on the same server than the one running your website. This website may only contains
pjirc files while the rest of the "real" website is on any other host, that's not
a problem. But the pjirc files ARE to be on the irc server.

Sometimes, these restrictions may be unbearable for some administrators or webmasters.
That's why there is a way to avoid them using code signing and certification. A
signed application may ask the system for further privileges (as contacting any host).
The system will prompt the user if he/she really trusts this application, via some
security popup.

Indeed, that does appear to be the issue. I have the chat working fine now, I simply disabled java.

if you wish to add your own image in the background do following

ADD this Code just above </applet>

then upload your image in the same dir as rest. My image size is 550 X 245
should be same for you aswell if you havent changed the dimensions in your chat template.

since windows is no longer shipped with a microsoft java vm and most machines are using sun java vm thats what the warning is also i think next version which should be out shortley should have signed jar-file, wich will permit the use on Sun JVM.

i get the warning in msn8 works fine in ie6

i hate that 2nd thing that msn8 sucks in :-\

there is a way to to aviod this warning message but its very messy not worth the hassle and only works if you have dedicated server where you place the file so instead when someone joins applett takes the needed file from the server.

hmm nvm about that but in ie6 i dont get the warning only in msn8. so i use both browsers at same time :) laff

i dont have microsft virtual machine so if i disable java for the sun system one it dont work.

Also due to micros virtual machine being gone i cant use it.

is their a newer version of the applet to support the sun system java?

Very nice hack... Up and running in about 5 minutes with my own customized image. A few questions...

1. Are you going to proceed with giving an option of a pop up window rather than having this in the main browser?

2. Is there a faster server out there?

And that's about it. I'm in the NY area and this server takes quite a bit of time for me to get into.

you can have the chat open in a new window by doing the following dont link it direct to chat.php because your images will not show do this

click on your chat link then look in your browser address bar copy that url and paste it where i have placed *******

hard to say from that link- I found it one of the easiest to install... what have you put into your templates?

I redid the chat.php page and it's connected but I get **failed tolaunch ident server access denied. I think I saw someone else was having that same problem, so I'll go back and research that. Any tips in the mean time

i dont think you did what the instructions says because looking at your source code i see you changed the template or dont have template called chat you just added everything to chat.php

Not to sure what that error was related too - think it was a Java issue but it shouldn't effect everyone else connecting...
here is my chat tmplate.... alter the following lines

chat_nick = what ever you want the person to connect as ( i had trouble when they were connecting using the $username)
irc.server = the IRC server you use ie gamesnet.east
#channel = the channel you use ie #antivirus

thatt is the same sort of error i used to get as well. hence i changed it to "forum_user??" that will create a username of forum_user with two random numbers on the end

It gives the same error message.

I should also admit that I have no knowledge of codeing so this is why its not working.

I'm gonna go back and re read the newest replies.

its definatly something in the chat template - try changing the chat server with in it and see what happens then..
