KlipFolio Integration
 

This integration is very very simple. There are two files to upload and two very small templates to add.

Basically it adds a way for your users to get your news forum on their desktops.

some of the code was borrowed from the MyvBIndex by Tigga hack located here.

Hope you enjoy it, but as this is not really a hack, and is very self explanatory, and documentation is provided via serence.com, I will not be supporting this integration. I will attempt to answer questions as best I can however, but do not expect it. I have been running this script on other vB's for friends and colleagues of mine for about a year now, with additions and updates whenever serence updates their code standards.

Even after months I'm still kinda lost on what a klip is but I think I'm going to attempt to use it. Do you have a screen for this?

There really is not screen as it is all backend, but I'll hook you up with a view of my desktop with the klip system installed.

Basically what klips are is XML type news feed that feed your users (who have the klip system installed) threads from a chosen forum on your site, via their desktop. This updates whenever they get online then after a set time limit (which you determine). This way they can stay up to date, even when not on your site.

You'll have to download their software as well to use it.

Just curious, could you use klip to desplay newest threads (and would it be wise -- I'm thinking server load etc?)?

It would be possible, but would take some different code that right now I'm not able to provide as I've alot of other things going on.

I may visit that idea later when other things have died down abit (like after my son is born...Two weeks and counting!!!)

:) congradulations. "Died down a bit" can be a pretty long time because newborns can be a handful. I'll test klip out with this hack and get back to you. I might even be able to do my own request :p

thanks Kriek :3 I'll definately try this tomorrow. I just installed Klip and I'm playing around with the settings. This little thing is kinda neat. :)

You would edit the file klipfolio.klip in any text editor.

I'll be adding the information to the zip file tomorrow night.

I remember the old thread concerning this nifty little thing, and some people trying to get it to show new forum posts, etc. in the klip. Nobody ever made a script for it though, so the project sorta died.

Anyway, cool to see it came through, and great job ;)

How about an option to show latest posts, instead of newest threads. On my forum my users tend to post in the same threads...

To quote what I said earlier about additional functions added to this hack:

I'm not trying to be rude, just don't have the time. If you come up with an addition to the hack, or a secondary option to it, feel free to post it here, and I'll add it to the zip file when I get the chance along with instructions on how to integrate your addition should the user wish to do so, along with full credits. But other than that, I'm done with this hack. I put it up, simply because I noticed a few folks wanted it and no one had really ever posted the hack.

After discussion with the Serence development team and several members of this community including cloudrunner would wrote KlipFolio Integration, I have decided to release Thread Torrent for Serence KlipFolio and vBulletin.

Does users have to download any files? Or does it works without it?

they must have klip installed as well I believe :)

End-users need Serence KlipFolio to view Klips, that's all.
