I'm going to throw my mouse out the window and hit HellSatan on the head with it

I have a Kensington Optical Elite. It worked fantastically for months; now every seventh or so time I move the scroll wheel one notch, it goes in the opposite direction (down moves up, then back to normal for a bit).

So I want a new optical mouse. No Logitech because I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. I probably want an MS Intellimouse Optical, just so long as it has thumb buttons. I also don't want to spend more than $30 for just a mouse. I have a MS Multimedia Keyboard and love it and heard that MS mice are good.

So, any suggestions on what to get and where (US; I have a CompUSA, Staples, and Best Buy nearby but can buy online if forced).

BTW, eBay would work, too, provided the shipping isn't insanely inflated (most charge $10 to $15, pfft... ) it's in an unopened box, and PayPal is accepted. :)

Go to Best Buy and get the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical or spend the extra few dollars and get the Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer. It uses 2 AA batteries which are good for about 2 weeks with 10 - 14 hours usage daily. If you use it less than that daily they last longer. It has 5 buttons on it, 3 on top (2 plus the scroller) and 1 on each side. What's great about it is you don't have a cord, plus you can use the mouse ten feet or so away from the computer.

Whats wrong with logitech? I've had a optical mouseman usb for going on 2 years and never messed up on me

filburt1 05-17-2003 02:25 AM

I definitely don't have a need for wireless, especially the battery situation. I also used that exact mouse before and didn't like it.

Looking at Wheel Mouse Optical, although I'll probably get it off eBay to save a few bucks...:)

As I've said, I've had bad experiences. I had a Wingman Extreme Digital 3D and two mice (one optical, one not) from them and all have been crap.

I definitely want the wired Intellimouse Optical. Only problem is that it's $50 retail...time to scour eBay unless there are other suggestions :)

Boofo 05-17-2003 02:48 AM

I love my wireless mouse. Never had a problem with it.

As far as the Wheel Mouse Optical goes, it is also a great mouse. But it doesn't have any thumb buttons, only the 3 on top.

This one's a good price:

filburt1 05-17-2003 03:05 AM

That's not the 5-button version :)

Xenon 05-17-2003 10:06 AM

i use a 3 button mouse from logitech for 5 years now and have no problems with it :)

I know, most people say that their Logitechs rock but I don't want another one.

Tony G 05-17-2003 02:18 PM

I have a Mircosoft Optical and it works like a charm. I'd reccomend it. :)

filburt1 05-17-2003 03:17 PM

Maybe I should look into a trackball, too? I occasionally get wrist pains now from the mouse. :(

Dean C 05-17-2003 03:24 PM

Its a mouse. You use it to click things with either the left or right button.

Why so technical? ;)

Thumb buttons for back/forwards in IE = godsend :)

Dean C 05-17-2003 04:13 PM

That's quite a good idea actually ;) ^^

Bought an Intellimouse Optical (5-button) off eBay today for $21 + shipping (retails for $50)...should be here by Friday or so given that it's USPS from California. :)

It's nice except:
1. I hate batteries
2. It's too big
3. I get lag with it (varies with the computer)
4. I never move the mouse from its pad

Talisman 05-19-2003 03:33 PM

Oh sure. Like we believe Boofo ever goes 10 feet away from his computer?

Boofo 05-19-2003 04:02 PM

It was way before computers were invented, I'm afraid. ;)

Besides Bob - Why so scared?:p

Because I can't remember how long it has been that I have been away from the computer. I hear that men have walked on the moon already. What a world! ;)

Chris M 05-19-2003 05:58 PM

Lol...

Well it says you are 49...

So accounting for the fact that you must by lieing, I estimate your age to be 490...

So a long time:p

Boofo 05-19-2003 06:04 PM

That hurt, Chris. I don't know if I will ever be able to get over it.

Ok, I'm over it now. ;)

And I really can't remember lying. When was that? ;)

http://www.pricewatch.com/1/311/3296-1.htm might be a bit of help...

filburt1 05-22-2003 05:27 PM

The mouse came today, surprisingly. Works nicely and looks sexay. Also comfy. Thanks for the guidance :)

N9ne 05-22-2003 05:43 PM

I always preferred the old mice, where you'd have a real mouse squeeking around on your desk, it was fun to have to find your mouse to use your computer, and it felt so realistic, it even pooped! Who can say they have such a great mouse?
