Suspend Thread

Description

If you think like me, you've already created a Trash Bin forum and perhaps a Holding Pen forum to allow your Moderators to discuss the fate of threads before they reach the Trash Bin. So I've taken the liberty of adding a simple link in the postbit to allow Moderators, Super Moderators and Administrators to automatically and quickly move a specific thread to a specific form, preferably a private forum.

Installation Information

Code:

Files to edit: (2) postings.php, admin/functions.php
Queries to Run: (0) nada
Templates to edit: (1) postbit templates/postbit
Templates to add: (0) nada
Time to install: approx 2 minutes

Excellent, thanks very much :).

Eplix.Studio 04-19-2003 04:05 PM

Thanks alot, Its very usefull.

Zelda-King 04-19-2003 06:30 PM

Installed! Great! One thing though. When I leave the method blank it uses the copy method rather than the move one as is implied in the text file. No problem though.

Kriek 04-19-2003 07:07 PM

Interesting, try method=move

That doesn't work on my version, so I opted for blank. Hope this helps.

Zelda-King 04-19-2003 07:10 PM

Yes, I've done that. It works. It wasn't a problem really. I just thought you'd like to know what the blank setting does (or at least what it does on my board, which is vB 2.3.0).

Kriek 04-19-2003 07:15 PM

Ok, thanks. I've made a note of this in the installation instructions.

Merjawy 04-24-2003 06:06 PM

thats nice.. makes life a lil intereting.. I do have a private section to move trash to it before we give it the last kick

I like the blank method, that way you just copy it and then you can edit the original post to add your comment or what have you

I have yet to look at this hack but I am sure I will be in next 3 to 15 minuts :)

thnx

I found most people do ;)

Hope you enjoy the hack.

How about a specific post?

SHalliday 04-25-2003 07:16 PM

Hey I know this may sound like a stupid question but I am new to all this: How or what do I need to open the recyclethread.rar attachment file. While I have successfully downloaded the file to my harddrive, am unable to open it and am unfamiliar with "rar" file type. What program do I need?

Kriek 04-25-2003 08:26 PM

SHalliday, I suggest downloading WinRAR ;)

Marzas 04-26-2003 12:44 AM

good work Kriek, this hack will be very useful to other people.

*marzas delighted to click install

SHalliday 04-26-2003 05:57 PM

Thanks Kriek! I have downloaded and installed WinRAR. Looking forward to installing this hack next :)

Kriek 04-26-2003 07:50 PM

No problem ;)

Hope you enjoy the hack.

Bira created a hack to move posts to other threads a while ago. It works with the merge thread option.

Chris M 05-12-2003 12:33 PM

Good hack!:)

I have attached a .zip file so that non WinRAR users do not have to download it;):)

Satan

Boofo 05-12-2003 12:54 PM

Jon, is there a way to leave a reason in the forum after moving the thread? Like a move-redirect. Maybe an option in the code for something like "This thread has been removed for review"?

Austin Dea 05-12-2003 08:29 PM

Does it need to be zipped? It's just a .txt...

Either way, nice hack. Exactly what I've been looking for ;D

That's definitely an idea worth looking into. Perhaps some sort of method to alter $thread['movedprefix'] in forumdisplay.php or simply adding a message as a new line under that portion of code might be sufficient.
