Ad-Lib Hack
Here we go, time for some more fun, this was requested by one of my members.
Ad-Libs are a series of short stories with a difference! You configure a series of stories with member entered variables, When a member does an Ad-lib they will be asked a series of questions, once they submit their responces will be put into the sentence that you have pre written. The answers given by each member determans a diferent outcome each time a particular story is done, Because the member has no idea of the main text in the story the end product usually ends up very funny. I have screen shots of each stage Members can not view other members stories in each title until they have done their own. There are 40 inputs in total 20 for story text and 20 for member entered variables. your ad-libs can be of any lenght and dont have to take up all inputs. You can modify the stories at any time however you can not alter any already pre-set member questions because it would stuff up any existing stories. DEMO: atmyparty.com SCREENSHOT: Next posts REQUIREMENTS: 1 X php file alteration 1 X database query 8 X new templates INSTALATION TIME: aprox. 10 - 15 min Tested on 2.3.0 but should work on all versions. ~ This hack is Copyright ~ Please note that I reserve the right to code and release this hack for VB3, I have not and will not grant permission for anyone else to code this hack for VB3. |

Good hack btw :) might install it :) |
Great hack there this should keep all my users busy and happy for awhile at least. ;)
|

Yep Dark, I did notice that...lol.... I just didnt go dack to fix it! However keep things like that in mind when you go building your own stories |
Sorry dark i misunderstood your comment, Its not a bug its just the way i set up the story
"he" - i entered as a member input "she" - i entered in the story line in the admin without thinking. As i said above, when making up you stories keep in mind the possible user variables eg. past / present / future tense him / her etc. |
Some feedback please...is anybody using this hack?
|
I haven't yet installed this to play with, but it's certainly on my list..
I did see in the instructions file: "The last thing you need to do is add this code to likn to your jukebox" <--- Might want to get rid of that when you're bored! ;) -Jason |
You need to change the design of your front page .. it's ...
|
Looks kind of fun:)

I installed...but I can not write Ad-Libs...LOL...any pointers?

OK,
1) Write a short story based on a theme that suits your site. Quote:

Your Text - 1 The User Question - 1 Please enter an animal. Your Text - 2 sat on the User Question - 2 Please enter a colour. Your Text - 3 mat playing with a User Question - 3 Please enter a toy. GOOD LUCK! |
I installed it a few minutes ago. Looks like I might be able to have some fun with it. I'm not much of a story teller, but I'll try my best. :)

This may sound like a dumb question, but how do you get the proper puncuation.
I like this hack though, very nice. |
hmmm as in full stops after a uesr variable etc
Well it would have to go in the next line of your text, but it will appear with a space. Otherwise try to use user variables where punctuation isnt required |
Is it the same as interactive story hack?
Can you describe it, Australian boy?! :o) |
more like an interactive sentence.
here is an example from my site, the story is called "In the morning" This in the end output Quote:
|
Oh, if it only could be made more a non looking-vb page, just like an ordinary page in a seperate folder, for example "/story" ... (a wish)
|
that's very funy
|
Has anyone modified this to work on 3.0.7? I would love to install this!
|
I'll try it on my 2.3.0 version.
Thanks |
