I've seen on some threads that there are people working on this very usefull hack.
Any news? Is it nearly finished? Cannot wait any long for it... :D :D :D (I'm jocking) |
Anyword on this hack?
|
I never got around to it (there wasn't much request for it)
dunno about anybody else. |

Explain how it works in detail and I'll whip something up...

I copied this from a few places
DESCRIPTION : This hack allows you to give users praises or warnings on their posts. Users can be automatically e-mailed whenever they've been warned, and banned when they reach a certain warning level. Whenever a user receives enough praises, the e-mail address you set in your vB will be e-mailed. This information could then be used to find potential moderators or give out prizes to helpful users. Karma ratings can either be made public or hidden to everyone but administrators and moderators. This hack prevents double warnings/praises by different moderators for the same post, and allows the administrator to restrict where moderators can give warnings/praises to other users. http://www.ubbhackers.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000125.html But you may want to just copy the way ebay does it. All I really want is people to leave a good/bad comment about the user. and then maybe show a rating % or #. Basically if someone with a low rating posted something very new and nobody else had heard of you could check on them and see comments. Like this user always lies or something. Thanks Greg [Edited by Shak on 12-07-2000 at 04:14 PM] |

I always wanted a hack like this... plz Santa Klaus... :D |
I'm also looking forward for this hack!
There you go another request :) |
There is a forum already running this hack though you will have to bug him to release it to you. Search on karma and you can find it.
|
I emailed the webmaster and he replyed back that he can't give it out. He had it hacked a while ago and does not have the info on how it was done.
So it has to be wrote by someone again. |
Not much of a point asking for it until v2.0 comes out.
|
Is there a reason to wait until 2.0? Like the structure is changing so making this feature is a waste of time? Or just that it would have to be fixed for 2?
I've installed 1.1.4 and most hacks for it, but this is one i need. I want my users to be able to leave comments about others, so you know if someone is full of shit or not. Unless you know something we don't about a release date, I can't get any sort of eta out of anyone for when 2.0 will be out. A Week 2 weeks, month, something would be nice. Or we have bugs we need to fix here's what they are, then list when they are fixed? |
The source code will all be changed so you will have to re-create any hacks.
As for an ETA? I would guess 2-3 weeks but I don't know exactly what stage the features that were promised but have not been shown yet are in. |
I am working on a variation of this hack... Will be implemented slightly differently than the one available for UBB.
This will actually be a combination between Freddie's Star Hack and Karma. If you want to see what I am developing, I have posted a message at: http://www.sitepointforums.com/showt...threadid=12834 I am doing this now even though I know 2.0 will be out within a month or so, but I can't wait. Will deal with 2.0 when it comes out. |
Great!! Don't give up dude and let us know. :)
I'll track anyway that thread... UPDATE: Can I already use your existing Karma hack as seen on your board? I would like to test it and see how it runs just to have an idea. :) [Edited by Cr4z33 on 12-08-2000 at 11:14 AM] |

The icon is there as a teaser/work simplifier. It is in a new template that I created to hold the four icons there. Since I am pressed for time, I just added the karma icon. If you click on it, it will lead you to a popup but it will be empty. |

Tell me, what's the purpose of the "tool" icon near the Karma one? |
The tool icon allows Forum Advisors, Senior Advisors and Administrators to perform various tasks.
|
wow, all of this is terrific.
Please let me know when you have it ready and what help bug testing it. [Edited by Shak on 12-08-2000 at 06:22 PM] |

OK. The basics of the Karma Hack are in place and Working at the SitePoint Forums. I have a few more things I have to do before I release a hack though.
I still need to make maxkarma and minkarma options. Show Karma to the user in their profile and finish the Moderator Warning system. You can look at it in the SitePoint Forums. You have to be a registered member to play with it though. I do ask that you be judicious though because it is a live system. |
I tried to make an account on your site, but it sent me an email to activate. On that page it wants me to login but it doesn't like my username/password.
How do I get past that, username i used was Shakhan Thanks Greg Also as a Guest, it gives error page when you click the karma icon in a post. |

Guests aren't allowed to give Karma. You are supposed to get an error message. I am trying to build incentives that get people to register instead of being guests. |
I'm looking forward and very excited about these hacks!
Can't wait until you finish them :) |
Ok, that worked :) I am now able to leave Karma points for others.
Is their Karma stored in a field called something like Karma? So i could just add a simple thing under their usericon part that says Location: Home Karma: 500 and then possibly link the 500 part to a page of what comments were left about this person. |
Hey, I tried on my board to use also the "delete post" syntax used by you but it gave me a

No... Just working. The building I work in is being shutdown and I have to get all my equipment ready for the move to the new building.
I am currently responsible for over $100,000 worth of computer equipment including 4 servers and four desktop workstations. 3 Servers are mission critical and are allowed to be offline for a maximum of an hour. There is a change you need to make in editpost.php to get the delete feature to work. Look for: Code:
$userid=verifyusername($username,$password); Code:
//check valid username and password and get user id |
Tnx, works fine now!
Hope you'll not forget your servers on the old building... :D |
Thanks wluke!
That's just what I was looking for... |

Hmm, actually it doesn't.... NEW POST: Sorry it was my fault.... I just didn't noticed I was deleting a post done by myself! :D So everything is OK... tnx again and sorry... [Edited by Cr4z33 on 12-13-2000 at 05:53 PM] |
I know everyone is waiting for the Karma hack but I have decided to wait until VB2.0 is released to make it public.
The reasons for this are two fold. 1) I don't want to get people confused about which version to use. 2) I want to take advantage of VB2.0's standard features without having to do major recoding. These features include the buddylist, custom Profile Fields and Private Messaging. I hope everyone can understand. Besides this will give me time to work all the kinks out and give you a polished hack. :) |
No problem man, I'll wait anxiously for your hack release hoping that vB 2.0 will come out soon... :D
|
dang, so we'll be waiting like 6-12 months for the hack then.
