Is it worth it to buy hivemail?
 

ya they having a sale but am still thinking if I should get it or not.
80% off is a good sale. But the software have few glitches and few things I dont like about it after checking out the demo so I dont know If I should get it or not.

If I do get it, is it a good idea to get the unsupported license? because I might get that one. does anyone on here have the unsupported license and they are having no problem with it?

also, how hard is it to install hivemail? does anyone run through any problems installing it or had/having any problem after installing it?

does that stuff eat up hosting resources? even though am on dedicated server, but am trying to know though. especially bandwidth and cpu usage.

umm some pro's and con's?

I have plans to put it on my huge site so alot of people will be using it so does anyone recommend me getting a seperate box for it?

I'm really glad you posted this. I've had my eye on Hive Mail for a couple of months now but didn't want to shell out the $130-$180 for it. I didn't know about the sale until I read this post, but I got my copy a couple of hours before it was over. I haven't had much time to play with it and start setting it up yet, but so far it does look very impressive. :)

I am so immpressed with mine. Only problem I was having was that when I had my other email program open (my server catchall email account) it was getting all my emails meant for my hivemail. If anyone has a catchall address in say like Outlook, make sure you keep it clsed or you will get all your emails in it along with your members emails instaed of your hivemail program getting them and distributing them.

I hear that its vB integration is currently very shaky. I was considering buying it, but quickly changed my mind when I saw the tons of spelling and grammatical errors, which let me to think the code wasn't so hot, either.

I use it on my site for members who have been awhile, it's okay but I am not jumping up and down about it.

If I was going to do it again I would only use it for myself, once you start getting a bunch of members using the service it adds a whole new level of maintenance to your site. I've stopped new members now.

First you have to worry about people using it to send spam, then users complaining there getting spam, and then others who can't figure it out. Others sending large files hogging up the server....etc..etc...you get the drift.

Uh....it makes my heard hurt thinking about the hours wasted administrating it.

It has a pretty expensive price tag, in my opinion.

And like indiamike had stated, there are a lot of things to worry about once you have it installed.

POP3 access has been "in the works" for too long for hivemail. Its a much needed option, and at this point its vaporware. Its the only reason, besides vB integration I purchased HM. vB integration is shared passwords, thats about it.

I purchased HM at full price, and Chen has been extremely helpful. He personally has worked on a few problems we have had, and to me that is something that is important. I run basic service for members, and offer upgrade plans. So far, the upgrades have more than paid for HM. Would I buy again? Probably... We are on a dedicated server, and so far so good.

I use it, and built my orriginal hivemail userdatabase with info from my vbulletin db months and months ago.

Only problems I have had have been of my own doing more or less. Every once in a while I have had a glitch or the like, but in all honestly I have had my computer crash on me probably a hundred more times than I have had problems with hivemail.

I run over hundred domain names on mine, no problems. No once can register through the hivemail system, it alll has to be done through vbulletin. Again no problems.

Integration has been simple as pie, even though the forums are at http://sportsforum.ws and the email is at http://efsw.com

I personally got it and did not plan on using it, I have completely dumped outlook and exclusively use hivemail - the preview feature is the best damn thing I have ever seen in a webbased email. Its like outlook to me because of that, yet if I fry this piece of crap 2.53 ghz again I know that I will still have my email for a change.

The code is written very well.

I wrote my own as a direct result of that. I couldn't find any "good" (that I could tell), strongly vB-integrated systems for my site, so I wrote my own. I'm pretty impressed that I was able to, if I do say so myself :D

What is the difference in them besides maker and price. Can one do more then the other.

I am soon to buy one for one my sites due to members want it. But I need for it to be very intergrated such as dif usergroups and (vb3 add on groups) get dif alotments of space and so on they can use.

If you're referring to the difference between HiveMail and vBMS (which wasn't really explicitly mentioned but implied):

HiveMail: More powerful, weaker vBulletin integration, more expensive
vBMS: Less powerful, very strong vBulletin integration (moreover, it's powered by vB), less expensive

Each product has its place depending on the application.

I have wait till vBMS is able run vb3, only draw back. Also wanted where they seen if had mail when they hit the site (so did not have to go look all time)

If you've chosen to receive e-mails on PMs, you'll also get an e-mail when you get an e-mail received by vBMS.

Ya but what I would like to see is like in a welcome box you have yadda yadda pm and yadda yadda emails (yadda yadda could be so on so on)

The icon that appears in the header when you have new mail can be customized to whatever HTML you want.
