GeForce4 MX

I have a GeForce256 (32 MB DDR, I think, it's OEM). Will a GeForce4 MX completely trash my card or will the performance difference not be that great?

From my experience MX are garbage, get a TI4200 or 4600.

yeah i went from a gf2 mx to a gf4 ti4200 128mb, and the performance boost was huge especially with the latest drivers, on a good day i can run ut2k3 on max everything and laff, but
ive got (opflashpoin , all quakes, all unreals, rotw, avp2 wc3 and more) all of them will run happily at max in 1024x768x32 at about 40fps, no to mention i can keep ut runny at 40fps minimum online (56k).

Trust me the performance leap is massive, get yourself one with good config options/software tho

I hear the new gforce fx cards gpu`s outstrip p4`s in speed but i also here that they sound like a jumbo jet and produce enuff heat to cook a roast..

But with my gf4 ive had a lot of fun there great. Go for the ti4200 tho as mx is just the same as all other mx cards but now its being pushed to its limit.

I dont see there being any further releases in the mx cards. So yeah a gf4 ti4200 (get one with 8agpx if you can / pc supports it)

I'm not made of money.

Does anybody know if my specific card compared to a Geforce4 MX will be a good upgrade? I'm not looking to throw a bunch of money at this computer because in a year or two I'm just going to buy a G4 tower.

well in my post i said that with a gf2mx i saw a huge boost my gf2 was 64mb, your card is older than it (being the last generation before the gf2) so yeah your gonna see a huge diff :P

The ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB AGP is only $129. I currently run it in my computer and it's very good. I recommend it. :)

More information at [http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/ra...pro/index.html]. Enjoy!

I don't want to spend more than $80. Preferably I'm going to be lurking at http://www.techbargains.com/ and grab it when it goes on major sale.

Try a Geforce3 TI 200, I got my stepdad a gainward retail at newegg for 90$

Bestbuy or something had a Ti4200 64MB for around 80$ also..

CompUSA's deal just died for the same thing..

filburt1 03-26-2003 12:51 AM

Well if you do see any in-store special on a good card at Best Buy/CompUSA please let me know...

No problem, check www.spoofee.com and other sites for deals

If you have enough cooling in you system , and space , then go for the Gforce4. The reason i say this is the piddly little fan on it is known to fail (a lot).

Also the GForce4 is known to generate a lot of heat. And depending what brand of card you get will depend on how much the card has allready been overclocked.

It could be that us english people are getting the rubbish chips , but the failiure rate of that card is 4 out of 10. And we normally sell 100's of them.

If you are looking at improving on the card you have i would say for for a Gforce3 based card . More or less the same chip as the 4 , but not as overclocked..

Hope this helps
Chris

PNY GF4 Ti-4200 128MB DDR $99.99 AR
Tiger Direct has this card for $99.99 after rebate.

filburt1 03-27-2003 02:13 PM

Has to be an in-store offer.

RDX1 03-27-2003 02:52 PM

Why can't you get it shiped?
